Can't player photos and convert to .mp4 files?

Hi. Just got a 2 Gig off of EBAY and it works good.

I got the one with the MENU in the center of the click wheel and the 3.5 mm jack on the bottom left, usb on the bottom right. Power on the upper right.

Only prob is that I can't put photos in a folder on the root called photos.

I can put vids in a video folder and music in a music folder. Anyone know why the photos won't display in a folder? (they will if you manually change the location every time).

Also, it this is a MP4 player, why must we convert *.mp4 movie files?

Thanks!

This thing rocks for $39

undissembled , i tried creating a root folder called photos and copied some pictures over. When i start the photo viewer, i'm able to see the list of photo filenames to select.

Do you mean that when you are in the photo viewer, and press the Menu button, and browse to the photos folder, you do not see the filenames?

I don't know why these players are called mp4 players, but they are definitely not mp4-ready. Perhaps the manufacturers call them mp4 players to sell them better.

lattesurf Yes, that is what I do and I don't get any photo files to show up unless I go into the menu and select the photos folder.

EDIT: I just did it again and it works now. Not sure what was wrong before. Thanks!

undissembled , you should be able to view the list of photo filenames when you enter the photo viewer from the main scrolling menu.

And when you are viewing the pictures, by pressing the Play button, you should return to the photo filename list.

From here, if you press the Menu button again, and enter the player's root directory, you will not see any filenames appearing. The firmware was made this way and there is nothing much you can do about it.

It is working now, Thank you. One more question though. Is there a way to make it play songs shuffled?

undissembled , when in the music program, stop the music that is playing. Press Menu and select Repeat. Next, select Random. This should set the player to randomly play the tracks in the folder.

How did you get it to work?
It would be great to share the solution with everyone else in case someone else has the same problem.
