Default Changing MP3 Bitrate..

I have a TON of mp3's but most are at a bitrate of 192 or higher and take up far to much space. Does anyone know of a program that will allow me to reduce the bitrate of my mp3 files?

Thanks in advance!!

Media Monkey freeware version:

http://www.download.com/MediaMonkey/...-10109807.html

I generally convert to WMA format 64 kps stereo for music and find the sound quality equal to MP3 128 kps stereo with half the file size. 2 MB file yields about 4 minutes of music in WMA 64 kps stereo (33 HOURS per GB). You can choose various formats and compressions to convert to when converting. I think most MP4 players will play WMA format. You may have to download and install a codec pack if you haven't already.

Your welcome. To access the convert tool open Media Monkey, then open the folder containing MP3s to be converted, select those to convert, then go to Tools menu and midway down you'll find Convert Audio Format. Shift+CTRL+C also opens this.

Also, you have the option to either overwrite original file or convert to new destination. I keep the original higher quality version until I'm satsified with the conversion. Or I may archive the higher quality version to CD or DVD to save HDD space. If you are converting from mp3 to wma you can select the original folder if you like and the wma formatted file will lodge there without nuking the mp3 as they have different file extensions.

There is the option to convert to the same filename or to other preset names as well. These options you'll find in the Convert Tracks dialogue box part way down on the left side. Click on >> to access the various options.
