Default help! new '4gb' player won't connect

I got a 4gb player yesterday and it was connecting fine for a while, but now it's not showing as a disk drive either in windows or on my MacBook. I haven't been able to tell if it's hacked or anything else as yet, until I can connect it again.

any thought or suggestions appreciated. thanks!

tom

sh1mmer , try using another USB cable to connect the player.

The cable and socket might be loose or don't have contact, try wriggling the contact parts abit.

Besides connection problem, is your player functioning properly?

It`s like an MP3 Player which plays Music CDs only.

Hi everyone, thanks for helping!

I haven't tried another cable because it doesn't seem to be mini-B so I don't have one. It seems a lot more like this one http://www.lindy.com/us/productfolde...9/31679big.jpg which is for a Kokia/Minolta Dimage.

I have tried a couple of machines thought and unplugging the other peripherals.

I do notice that the charging via the mains adapter for the USB leads works and shows it charging.

When I plug it into the computer it is different. It shows the hour glass then it shows a "Connect" screen. This has zzzzzzz between the computer and "Connect" and the device. Is this saying the connection is sleeping or just crazy artwork?

sh1mmer , that would be the connection screen depicting idle connection, active transfers would have the "zzzzzz" replaced with another icon (probably a file icon). Does the battery animate in this screen?

It might be some problems with the data pins connection.

it seems like it is some kind of idle screen. i've been using the apple usb probe to see what's going on. it did connect for a couple of seconds earlier and showed arrows between instead of the connect message.

the battery isn't shown on this screen and it doesn't animate.

when i plug it in via the mains adapter the battery animates but the screen is totally different.

thanks again for your thoughts. I'm going to try and find someone with a dimage and see if the cables are the same.
