Replacing the battery in my Full Metal Platinum (2gen Nano)

Does anyone happen to know the sizes of the battery opening for the FMP, that the battery fits into? Or the size of the battery? Should I presume its the exact same as the 1st gen Nano clone? I'd like to try and find a battery that fits, but is rated at a higher capacity, because a longer run time is needed. Which leads to my next question... what is the capacity of these batteries? I can only seem to find 400mah MAX on eBay for a 2g Nano! (950mah for a regular iPod)

Also, any safety issues I should know about? I've seen a video of a lithium battery exploding and its not pretty!

I would also like to know about the battery details, as the run time does seem a little short. But firstly i'd like to know how to take one apart to get the new battery in there! There are no screws! :lol:

The plastic caps on the ends get pryed off, then the contents is slid out. Dont know how well they go back though! I presume you have to glue them back on or something.

Yes, a couple of people have as I recall, but I dont remember their names. Do a search.

Thanks MF. I have been searching but nothing found yet. I have taken steps to dismantling the unit. So far only to have removed the bottom 'cap'.

It is actually a 'sticker' of sorts, covering a 'cap' that is attached with 2 small screws on either side of the unit that in turn, attach it to some kind of bracket. The headphone 'loop' holder is physically attached and moulded to this cap beneath the sticker. I have removed the screws and pulled off the cap but i still can't figure out how to slide it's insides out.
The top of the FMP is also a sticker covering a cap to which the on/off switch is attached. But this top cap doesn't have any screws at all. All a bit of a puzzle. I'll post any results i have as soon as i know more

Sounds like the iPod mini. I have taken a few of those apart...LOL. After removing the screws and the bracket from the bottom, you should be able to remove the top cover, then slide everything up out of the housing (there may be a ribbon cable connecting the "click wheel" to the mainboard - you'll need to disconnect this first). This is of course, if it is put together the same way as the iPod Mini. I should have my FMP's here any day and will of course be taking one of them apart. Let me know how it goes.

The dis-assembly of the 2nd gen FMP (or similar) players would be somewhat same as the Creative Zen Micro.

Both uses a sort of thin plastic stuck to the player using either glue or double-sided tape. So prying it open, then removing the screws should allow the player to be opened easily.

Someone here who disassembled the FMP made an important point:

When the screws are taken out the bottom, don't push the insides out instantly. The button section must be pressed turned anticlockwise and lifted out before you do anything else. Otherwise, as I found out, the pieces which hold it in get broken and it may not go back on again.

So, back to the original question...

Does anybody know the maximum battery size for the FMP 1.8? Also, MJF, do you happen to know if the Cameron Sino battery that you linked to on eBay in another post will fit? Cameron Sino batteries seem to come highly recommended, as opposed to those other cheap Chinese batteries you find on eBay, which may or may not be any better than the one that came with the player. I contacted the seller, and I believe he was trying to find out the dimensions from the manufacturer, but I haven't heard back from him in a few days, so I'm assuming he never got an answer.
