MPx player won't turn on

Hi, hope this is the right forum... my mpx player won't turn on. This morning, the battery was low so I plugged in the AC adapter to charge it. Since then I searched this site and saw that the best practice is to use the USB port for recharging.

Now, I've got it connected to a USB port on my computer. I can see it in Windows Explorer and add or remove files from it. When I disconnect it from the computer (either by using "safely remove hardware" or by physically detaching the USB cable) and try to turn it on, it won't! The timer appears on the screen like normal and then I either get the main menu for a second or two, followed by a black screen or else I just get the black screen.

This is very frustrating, any help will be gratefully received.

cormac , does your player function properly (ie browse menus, play music/video) whilst connected to the computer via USB?

No, it's the same as when the USB cable is disconnected.

I see the main menu for about 1 or 2 seconds, then I get a screen with a picture of a battery and a plug+cable with a red X through them. Then the "Bye-bye" screen.

My earlier post was a little inaccurate, the description I've just given is what normally happens.

cormac , there could be some hardware problems that is causing little to no power supply to the player.
It seems that when you turn it on, the power gets cut off, and loses power, then shutdown with the low battery indicator.

I'll suggest you contact your seller for an exchange if it is under warranty. That's the fastest and easiest way to solve.

Thanks for the help lattesurf. That's an accurate summary of my problem alright.

Unfortunately, it was a Christmas present so going down the seller route isn't ideal... but obviously it's something I'll have to try.

This is probably a stupid question but is the circuit design for these players generic? Is there a general circuit schematic or, as I suspect, is it different for every make and model?

Again, thanks for any help!

And another question! I think the battery isn't actually charging. I've checked it with a multimeter and it shows 0V across the terminals. I also checked to make sure the terminals weren't shorted out (they weren't).
Is it easy to get replacement batteries for the players?

cormac , there are other members who managed to replace their batteries with ipod nano replacement batteries. However, every player differs in hardware, so some might fit, some might not.

What i can suggest is that if you want to try replacing the battery first. Open the player and measure the max allowable space for the battery. Then go onto ebay to look for the nano replacement battery.

You can read this thread for further details on the replacement: http://www.mympxplayer.org/new-batte...ne-vt2313.html
