Default device not recognized

I got this mp3/mp4 player for my son for Christmas and have had trouble with it from the beginning.

I installed the cd that came with it and tried to download some songs. I got a couple then my computer decided it didn't recognize the hardware. When I investigated this it said the driver needed to be downloaded. I thought this was a part of the installation disc???

Is there anywhere I can download just the driver needed for the device to work? I don't understand all the technical stuff on this website. firmware?? codecs? avi converters???

Please help....or this was a waste of money.
Thanks
Carla
