It's very easy to backup the media that you have on your chiPod. Follow these steps:

1) Create a folder on your PC. Label this folder backup, stuff, my chiPod, or anything you like. (Just make sure you have sufficient disk space.)

2) Connect your chiPod to your PC. Open the drive that is assigned to it. Example: Removable Disk (E: )

3) Highlight all files and folders on the Removable Disk. Copy these files to the new folder on your PC.

That's all there is to it. After formatting your player, simply copy the files back to the Removable Disk.

kwimbo , if you are just wanting to format the player, you will only need to backup your music/video/picture files (ie those files that you copied into the player).

You need not worry about the firmware/software as the format using Disk Tools does not delete your firmware/software from your player.
