MP 4 Player stuck on hour glass

Hi Chaps,

looking for assistance. The wife got an MP 4 player in the states for my daughters birthday. Couldn't even tell you what make as there is zero info on the Player or on the box and manual as to the actual make.

Basically its worked for a while and now its totally stuck on the hour glass screen. The PC does not recognise it as a "removable Device" but as an AFDU device in device manager. I gather I need some firmware to reload onto the MP4 player. The MP 4 player utility disc upgrade recognises the player and is asking for the required firmware. can anyone direct me in the correct direction.

The information I have is from opening the Player up and reading the board ID which is " Samsung 628 " K9L8G08UOM. The Audio system chip ( I think thats what it is called is a " AT J2091H " with a code below it reading F5249FA C75

Would be grateful for some expert advice(being a novice and all that)

Thanks in anticipation

mikc67,

Sorry to hear bout your problem with the MP4 player.

The best solution I can give you (if it's not too much of an issue and you bought from a local seller) is to get the item returned. It should be under warranty.

If it's worked for awhile then now has this problem, then there should be a problem with the chip's memory or possible static problems within the device that's making these problems.

If you can, get it returned for another one instead. It would be faster than having to try to fix it yourself (only if the seller is local, if you bought from China then it might be more difficult).

Can you get it detecting on your computer sometimes or never now?

Hi
Thanks for answering.

unfortunately it was bought in the U.S. so returning it is out of the question.

I tried the dead recovery, and it worked okay my ADFU device as it was recognised on the PC became a removable disc. So the pc is recognising the MP4 player and accepting firmware.

I think the problem is just getting the correct firmware, the upgrade tool is accepting some but not others but unfortunately at this stage I haven't found one which makes the MP4 player work, and I don't know what the original firmware was.

any furthern info or advice would be appreciated,.

Ta

I've lost the hour glass now and only get a blank dark blue screen

mikc67 , your player is using the ATJ2091 chipset. So it would be running a v9.0.43 or v9.0.48 or v9.0.50 firmware.

What i can suggest is to try all of the v9.0.xx series firmwares.

As currently the firmware extractor S1fwx only supports upto v9.0.43, you might face a problem locating a compatible firmware.

Hey guys,

I have the exact same problem!

When I switch on my mp4 player it just comes up with the hour glass and instead of bringing up the welcome message it freezes on the hour glass. When I connect it to my computer it brought up the New Hardware Device found window and it installed as an AFDU device and it doesnt recognize as a UBS Removable Disk drive.

Bai.

Id feel left out if I didn't tell you I was in the same boat up until this morning.
I also have to tell you each story fits mine to the tee. My player worked great for 3-4 days then I got the hourglass. I spent 2 weeks just browsing around this site and one other site that is somewhat similar(except their server works)This one is much better however in the personal level of interest you can get people to take in your quest to save a perfectly good mp3 player.
The other part that fits the story is the Firmware. I would wager this is the same player which is pictured in the "DeadPlayerRecovery" tutorial. The pics that start it showing how to short the chip. Luckily for me I bought another one at the same time.So my solution was found using the "Cloning" download. It even had the convenience of uploading the F.W. in my other player that I "shorted" in preparation. If you guys are still stuck I will give you the 9.50 version if you still need it.I have found a ton of Firmware to be had on LimeWire. I seriously suggest this administrator check LW daily for new resources. Lots of tools and Upgrades. Good Luck.

Thanks aztec13 for your comments and feedback.

If you can upload your firmware to this site, that would be great!

Probably best to try to zip it up if you can as the images from the cloning tool are rather large in size.

aztec13, have you checked those out? Limewire is notorious for fake files and virus/trojans. Almost all the .zip and .exe files on there are malicious software in some form. It is true that you may find a legitimate utility or program but it's rare.

Trust nothing thats .exe, .zip or .rar from Limewire mate.

Add me to your list of hourglass hangers! I spent most of last night trying to fix it. I used the firmware uploader tool from here, as i too bought 2 at the same time, but something happened during the process and a W32/splendor virus hit me big time. I have lost everything off my pc and have had to completley reload everything... I am loathed to try the clone program now just in case, has anyone else had a problem like this?
