Can you computer still detect your player when you plug it into the USB port?
If it comes up with the drive and you can see the contents of the player from your computer, that's a great start.
To confirm, you tried updating the firmware on it? After the update, were you still able to turn it on and use the player? If so, that's good news and that your player wasn't 'dead' as a result of the firmware upgrade.
Sorry to say this but there is still a large number of 'hacked' 4GB players out there. This means if you bought a 4GB player, there is still a good chance that it has a smaller memory size chip inside than 4GB and they 'hacked' it to show 4GB instead. Where did you buy it from and who?
