msmtm.
By the sounds of things your player was never 1GB. After you successfully reinstalled the correct firmware it showed it's true memory capacity. To check for sure, format your player using the mp3 Player Disk Utility or follow the "How To Remove Memory Hack" guide.

hey _Odyssey thanx for reply :D ..well this is another problem i have.. cause after restor when i try to format by the mp3 utility its give me a msg said ..(writing removable disk eroor! ) .. so i just can do format by (windows) i cant do it by the mp3 utility (like describtion in (How to Remove memory Hack guid) .. ) but befor my mp4 got dead i was able to format by the mp3 utility ... so wat u c ??
and oh ya belive me its capacity was 1 GB befor dead .( its mine and i know that .. am sure )

Hmmm.. perhaps the firmware you have now, in some way, can only address 250MB ? It could be the reason why the disk utility won't format it because it may actually discriminate the difference in actual memory as to assumed memory according to the new firmware. Hope that makes sense and sorry if it's confusing.
Instead of formatting with windows, try running a checkdisk. Connect the player to your computer and double click on 'My Computer'. Right click on your players entry and select 'Properties'. Click on the 'Tools' tab and under the 'Error Checking' section, select 'Check Now'. Place a check/tick in both boxes 'Automatically fix file system errors' and 'Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors' and click 'Start'.
It will check your player for errors just like a regular hard drive. Once thats done try formatting using the Mp3 Disk Tool.
Have you tried sending more than 250MB to your player?

well i tried the check .. and still the same problem .. ya i tried to send mor than and its give me msg that there is no enough space ..

hello..msmtm..did ur player play well before it is dead??i mean with no prob. like restarting..

if there is a prob. when u play media file..it is maybe coz ur player r hacked..so when u upgrade it with new firmware..it reveals its true capacity...

msmtm 10th Mar 2007 9:10 am

Thanx gaboon for reply :D well .. there was no problem with playing .. and its never do restart .. but there was a problem with files .. when i connect the player to computer and try to change file or floder name .. or ( copy .. paste somthin) its some times the files names its came like ($$hwber32#@@#@# ) u know somthing like that and cant be deleted so i have to format it but it was still 1 G after format .... well if it was hacked like u say .. i know its wrong but there is no way to get it back to 1 G ??

msmtm , i guess the best way to verify is to check the memory chip's serial number.

msmtm 11th Mar 2007 3:05 am

well .. checked and its HYNIX XOR / HY27Uf082G2M
..according to (2G) i think its 256 and its hacked right ? :( its baad ... any way .. when it was 1 G as a memory it was work Properly with out problems as a memory .. i used to use all memory on it (files about 800 MB .. so i need it back as a memory ... if it really hacked .. is there any way to hack it again and restore it to 1 G ??

_Odyssey 11th Mar 2007 3:26 am

msmtm.. it would be pointless to 'rehack' your player. You only have 256MB therefore you'd only be able to copy that much info to it. While it may have appeared that you had 1GB and you copied 800MB of data to it... it would have only been the file names. The only reason it seemed to work is because it was playing the files that were really there and skipping the ones that weren't.

Hey so you have less memory.. better than a dead player yes?

msmtm 11th Mar 2007 4:02 am

well .. ya its better .. but r u sure guys that my memory chip is origenaly 256MB ?? if sure thats all right :D

lattesurf 11th Mar 2007 5:16 am

msmtm , according to the Hynix datasheet , HY27Uf082G2M is a 2Gigabit (256MegaByte) memory chip.

So unless Hynix has a wrong serial number on their website, or you have typed a wrong serial number, or the number printed on your chip is wrong, the chip is definitely a 256MB.
