Default MP4-player: beginners question

HI,

I'm new here and I have a problem: a friend of me bought an MP4-player via eBay (seller ist hallo-trend). But this thing seems not to work.

I guess it's not defect but I do not know what to do. Can you please give me some tips or a link. Thanks.

What I know: I own a MP3-player. When I connect it via USB I can see an additional drive-letter (in Win2000 or XP) or I can see this device as /media/sda on my Linux-machine. This is fine.

for this player: I see nothing, on Windows 2000 or XP or Linux. On Windows it asked me for a driver with the name adfuud.sys.
After installing some MP3-player utilities I can connect the player via USB and now it installs fine. But I do not see it as a drive-letter in Win2000 or XP.
In the device-manager I see this device as: USB 2.0 (HS) ADFU device

Can you please give me a tip what to do now. Thanks.

Did you try another USB port? Like the ones on the backside of your PC, directly to the motherboard.

Hello Hotboxx,

what I have here is:
- 2 palyers: one MP3-player (works), one MP4-player (makes problems)
- 3 cables
- 3 USB-ports on my notebook

I've checked all the combinations: no change, allways the same.

The MP4-player is seen in the device-manager as described before and no drive-letter is assigned to it. The MP3-player works.

So what can I do? Send it back to the seller?

Thanks for your reply.

If your player is showing as an ADFU device then the firmware is corrupt and the player is in recovery mode waiting for firmware to be loaded.
In Recovery mode the player will not show in Explorer.
To recover the player you need the players exact full version firmware. This would have to come from the players manufacturer via the seller.
I suggest you send the player back as the chances of recovery without the exact firmware are not good.
