Default Damn thing's not charging : /

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, so let me apologize in advance if I got it wrong as I'm half asleep right now and really fustrated.

My mum bought me a generic mp4 nano lookalike player for my birthday and it works really great. Had no problems with getting the songs on, great lcd screen, etc. The only issue I'm having is with charging the thing. First time I plugged it in for a short charge just to make sure that it was working alright. Now that I've plugged it in and left it overnight, it's like the damn thing isn't absorbing electricity. When it's connected, a screen saying "Switch On" pops up, so I'm taking it like it's saying put me on so I can charge properly. The engrish in the manual isn't much help besides telling me very badly that it has a lifespan of 10 hrs. I implore somebody out there who has a mp4 player similar like this to tell me how to frigging charge this bloody thing!

I have my first day of a trial job Monday morning and if I don't have any decent tunes to listen to during the rush, I'm going to go completely mental!

Please somebody help me!

Have you tried charging by USB or AC(plug-in)? Mine only charges via USB and comes up with battery animation letting me know it's charging.

I've tried AC so far. I'll see how USB goes in a while.

I wouldn't recommend to charge with the adapter that it came with. They are usually low quality. My first one exploaded. :|

If you could get or take a picture of the type of clone you got that would help alot.

When you are using the music player, in the top right hand corner is there a battery indicator? If its full it will be a solid line. As you use the player the line goes to 3/4 long, then half, then a quarter long, and finally no line representing super low power.

What does the line look like in the battery indicator after you charge it?

If its like mine when you connect to the charger you get the "switch on" message - this simply means it needs the little sliding switch on the top edge of the player near the headphone jack slid over to the on position - not that the player needs to be on. If its not moved it doesn't charge which caught me out the first time I tried to charge it.
