Default charging issue

Hello all,

Got myself a sumvision opus pro 11 4gb MP3 player. Overall very happy with it, bought it from scan.co.uk for 45 pounds. Got a 2.5 mm to 3.5mm adaptor fitted in there so happy with the sound quality with my Sony headphones. However I have 2 queries about this. Would be very helpful if you could give me some info:-

(i) When plugged into the computer the computer recognises the mp3 player. A screen comes up displaying computer to mp3 connectivity. The little battery icon displays that the MP3 player is charging. However, and have tried this twice, when disconnecting after about an hour, the battery level stays to where it was before connecting to the computer. Looks like computer is not charging the MP3 player. Any ideas? I can charge from mains ok.

(ii) The MP3 came with a cd rom with MP3 tools, which I have installed. However, the option that says mps upgrade does not recognise my firmware version. It is like it does not detect the MP3 player ??

Many thanks for your help

moghm , is the On/Off switch at the top in the On position whilst charging? Also, are you using a USB hub to connect your player?

What firmware version is your player using? i'll suggest not to do any firmware upgrades as it would most likely brick your player.

It`s like an MP3 Player which plays Music CDs only.

Thanks for that. Yes, I am using a HUB, could that be the reason ?

I'll check the firmware version. i have no plans to update the firmware but was just wondering why the tool did not recognise the firmware.

The hub could be the problem. Try it without it and see if that makes a difference.

moghm , if you're using a hub and there are other things connected to the hub, likely it would be the cause of the charging problem.

When there are more than 1 connection at the hub, the amount of current supplied is divided amongst the connections. Thus, your player may not be receiving enough current to charge.

Try connecting your player directly to the USB port when you want to charge the player.

Thanks for all the info. I am connecting my MP3 player directly now, no hub. Will see how it goes

Also, the firmware version is as follows:

CTW500_S75
2006/10/10

9.0.48.001
2006/11/01

does the above sound familiar ?

many thanks

That firmware can not be backed up with that tool. That is why the software wont recognize it. Currently there is no software that can be used to extract that firmware (9.0.48 )

Thanks. Strange that the CD rom and software given with the MP3 player does not recognise the MP3 player. No problem.

An update on charging, as advised, I connected the MP3 via USB directly i.e. no hub, and the charging issue is solved.

So thankyou very much,

If you use a hub that has its own power supply, you probably won't have that problem.
Great to hear that everything is working out.
