Re: 4GB chip, mp3 plays only 1GB

Hi, I also purchased a 4GB which was only a 1 g device and it no longer works. Jungle.bookstore tried to extort a withdrawal of feedback by saying he would fix one problem and then the other after the withdrawal.

Unfortunately I paid by palpay but by the time it sat under the Xmas tree for a while enough time had past that I no longer had any recourse.

Unbelievably I now have negative feedback on my ebay account because I purchased a fraudulant device from this seller.

Hope you can have him pay!

Of course it should be. If it recognises your player then it should be able to format it correctly. It might be wise to try earlier and later versions of the utility as well though. If it was incompatible it would say something like 'Unable to format this chip type' when you try to format it.

anybody believes that if i escalate to a claim i will not lose?

alisave 24th Mar 2007 6:26 pm

If i make a claim, do I have to ship the item back to him? and pay for the shipping costs? and do I have to send the items seperately?

all the above are as he claims?

I already email Samsung that pic if they can verify that it is theirs just by looking at the pic, but I dont know when (and if) they will reply to me

alisave , according to the Samsung datasheet, the chip you have installed in the player is indeed a 32Gigabit (4GigaByte) memory chip.

MP3 Utilties (any version) would work with your player properly as your player is using an Actions chipset. Even the CD that came with the player would contain the MP3 Utilties software.

There are some possible answers for the 4GB becoming 1GB.
1. The chip was printed wrongly by Samsung as mentioned by jctoad. And usually these wrongly printed chips would still be sold, but at a fraction of the original 1GB selling price.
2. The chip number was modified by the manufacturer or seller themselves.

The seller's reply to you, i would say he/she is trying to intimidate you into withdrawing the feedback.

Get the seller to send you the "software" that would format the original 4GB. As _Odyssey mentioned, it is likely a hacking tool that hacks it back to 4GB.

This guy is full of shit, I have used all versions of the MP3 Player Utilities Disk Tool multiple times on every legitimate player I have had (8 in total) from 1GB to 4GB and never had memory loss of any sort. If this is a legitimate 4GB chip then it must be damaged in some way.
If he is sending you an app to fix the memory it is a modified version of the disk tool that will rehack the chip. Info on this tool has been posted previously.
Re your memory chip serial who knows if it is legit or not but I just checked 7 samsung memory chips and all the serial numbers are evenly spaced and level where as the B in your serial is slightly raised and unevenly spaced. If it is not a fake chip it may be damaged in some way.

That is exactly what i was talking about. That B doesn't look right. I'd say it's been altered and it's supposed to be an 8 not a B. Everything else is evenly spaced and aligned.

Re: 4GB chip, mp3 plays only 1GB

Does pagsg1966 still have that player? Is the chip # in it the same?

I put the pic in photoshop. There are 2 B's on the chip. I overlaid a transparent B onto the other one. They look identical. I also tried an 8 over a B and the B does not seem to be a modified 8.
Look at the C next to the other B. That B also looks higher than the C just as the first B looks higher than the N.

From looking at the picture (very nice pic too) I think the number has not been altered. It was either mis-marked at the factory or someone went through a lot of trouble to remove the old silkscreen markings and make a new silkscreen to put on the fake numbers.

It could be a defective chip. However, I doubt that all those 4GB that people have been reporting are defective. In other words; I doubt it.

The best part was when the seller/scammer starts to groan about mympxplayer.org  Nice to know that the word is spreading. Funny how places like uxcell and others that don't sell hacked players don't have bad things to say about us.
