4GB chip, mp3 plays only 1GB
Hello,
I have an mp3 player with the following memory and processor chips: ---------------------------------- Samsung 704 K9NBG08U5A PCB0 FEA273PI ----------------------------------- ATJ2091H FC010FA 5C4 ----------------------------------- firmware version: 9.0.50 LSC_91N002_20 2006-12-27 9.0.50 2005-01-09 ----------------------------------- According to samsung, this is a 4GB memory. My player shows 4GB in the memory status, my computer shows the same in windows explorer. however, when I copy mp3 files to the player, only the first 1GB of files are playable, the remaining 3GB is rubbish corrupt files. I bought this from eBay, from (jungle.bookstore) and I am communicating with him, and I want to know whats going on. can i fix this, since the memory chip is really 4GB? Thanks |
Are you sure the chip is marked
K9NBG08U5A which is a 4GB and not K9N8G08U5A which is a 1GB |

Re: 4GB chip, mp3 plays only 1GB
I just installed the mp3 player disk tool, and it showed the capacity to be 962MB

Re: 4GB chip, mp3 plays only 1GB
The number on the chip seems to be a 4GB, but it acts like it is only 1GB. The chip could have been mis-marked (a legitimate mistake by Samsung) however, it looks like someone decided to hack the player after the chip was installed to make it look like what the chip is marked as. This would explain why it won't store the 3GB correctly.
My guess is that the Format tab on the player disk tool will show that it is 4GB, but the Partition and Encrypt tab does show capacity to be 962MB which is its true size. jungle.bookstore is on our black list at #52. Buyers left feedback that players with hacked memory were sold. Following http://www.mympxplayer.org/how-to-re...ck-vt2400.html will make the player and windows show the true size of the memory. Since it seems to be only a 1GB chip, there is no way to make it 4GB. I would attempt to get a replacement or refund. |
Re: 4GB chip, mp3 plays only 1GB
Hi,
I've got the same unit from the same supplier with the same issues, 4gb displaying, only really 1gb. Am going to drop them (jungle.bookstore) an email but I don't suspect I'll get any sensible reply. Mind you at £25 delivered for a 1gb rechargeable unit that does sound and simple video I think it's worth the money, but it would have been nice to have the truth!! Tell me how you get on too. |
Re: 4GB chip, mp3 plays only 1GB
He is losing his mind becuz of my negative feedback. He even reported that I did not pay him for the item. I don't know if this will get him anywhere, cuz I paid through paypal, and it can easily be proven that I did pay him.
He sent me a messege as follows: Code:
WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU? If you have problems i said we will help! Negative feedback is the end of communication as defined by eBay unless you don't want to resolve this you should communicate with us. I've also left you neg for your offense. But I still want to resolve it with you as it's a simple problem! Why did you download a tool that is incompatible with the player? The player disk cautioned buyers not to use disk tool downloaded from elsewhere and improper formatting will lead to memory loss etc. Do you have an email address other than AOL, hotmail and MSN that can accept a file size of 1MB? I will mail you the disk tool that works with the player to restore its original state. Can this be done? If you agree to resolve it this way and that the neg i left on your record and the neg you left on me to be withdrawn, please copy the following link to your browser: Please tell me NOW before I escalate the disputes to claims. By the way, I have, foolishly, bought 3 items from him, and all play 1GB only. Thanks. Please leave a comment even if you don't have an answer. Just supportive one! Thanks |
The 'tool' he speaks of could very well be the program used to hack the players. Personally i would ask him him to send me the software program for testing before i made any commitment. If it is the hacking program you have even more evidence against him.
|
But is the tool that I used (MP3 Player Utilities 4.05) incompatible with my player(s).

Re: 4GB chip, mp3 plays only 1GB
Hi, I also purchased a 4GB which was only a 1 g device and it no longer works. Jungle.bookstore tried to extort a withdrawal of feedback by saying he would fix one problem and then the other after the withdrawal.
Unfortunately I paid by palpay but by the time it sat under the Xmas tree for a while enough time had past that I no longer had any recourse. Unbelievably I now have negative feedback on my ebay account because I purchased a fraudulant device from this seller. Hope you can have him pay! |

anybody believes that if i escalate to a claim i will not lose?
|
If i make a claim, do I have to ship the item back to him? and pay for the shipping costs? and do I have to send the items seperately?
all the above are as he claims? |

alisave , according to the Samsung datasheet, the chip you have installed in the player is indeed a 32Gigabit (4GigaByte) memory chip.
MP3 Utilties (any version) would work with your player properly as your player is using an Actions chipset. Even the CD that came with the player would contain the MP3 Utilties software. There are some possible answers for the 4GB becoming 1GB. 1. The chip was printed wrongly by Samsung as mentioned by jctoad. And usually these wrongly printed chips would still be sold, but at a fraction of the original 1GB selling price. 2. The chip number was modified by the manufacturer or seller themselves. The seller's reply to you, i would say he/she is trying to intimidate you into withdrawing the feedback. Get the seller to send you the "software" that would format the original 4GB. As _Odyssey mentioned, it is likely a hacking tool that hacks it back to 4GB. |
This guy is full of shit, I have used all versions of the MP3 Player Utilities Disk Tool multiple times on every legitimate player I have had (8 in total) from 1GB to 4GB and never had memory loss of any sort. If this is a legitimate 4GB chip then it must be damaged in some way.
If he is sending you an app to fix the memory it is a modified version of the disk tool that will rehack the chip. Info on this tool has been posted previously. Re your memory chip serial who knows if it is legit or not but I just checked 7 samsung memory chips and all the serial numbers are evenly spaced and level where as the B in your serial is slightly raised and unevenly spaced. If it is not a fake chip it may be damaged in some way. |

Re: 4GB chip, mp3 plays only 1GB
Does pagsg1966 still have that player? Is the chip # in it the same?
I put the pic in photoshop. There are 2 B's on the chip. I overlaid a transparent B onto the other one. They look identical. I also tried an 8 over a B and the B does not seem to be a modified 8. Look at the C next to the other B. That B also looks higher than the C just as the first B looks higher than the N. From looking at the picture (very nice pic too) I think the number has not been altered. It was either mis-marked at the factory or someone went through a lot of trouble to remove the old silkscreen markings and make a new silkscreen to put on the fake numbers. It could be a defective chip. However, I doubt that all those 4GB that people have been reporting are defective. In other words; I doubt it. The best part was when the seller/scammer starts to groan about mympxplayer.org  Nice to know that the word is spreading. Funny how places like uxcell and others that don't sell hacked players don't have bad things to say about us. |
Re: 4GB chip, mp3 plays only 1GB
thank you all for your replies.
lattesurf, I am still waiting for his program, jungle.bookstore is very slow, he barely sends me one email a day. I think after I have my breakfast, and cigarette, i'm going to escalate one of the disputes to a claim. The reason why am hesitating is becuz in one of his replies (when he was very polite, not anymore ;)) he said: [hr:15242a177c] Sorry if you constantly have problems with the player, I suppose you have either hardware or software conflicts. Perhaps your USB port is using the popular VIA chipset which is full of hardware bugs and has communication with some sorts of high speed USB2.0 devices like our MP4 player. Perhaps there are hardware conflicts and your MP4 is conflicting with some other internal devices of your computer. Also if your computer connected to other mp3 players before the computer may use the same drivers on the new player as it recognized the new player as the old player and uses the old drivers and settings, causing lots of problems. You may email your computer configuration so that we can forward it to the manufacturer for support. Don't worry we will resolve it with you. [hr:15242a177c] again my questions regarding a claim: If i make a claim, do I have to ship the item back to him? and pay for the shipping costs? and do I have to send the items seperately? |
Oh puhleeze.. the old.. "theres something wrong with your computer, maybe it's running the VIA chipset, its full of bugs" excuse.
What a crock. Thats lame... really lame. Open a despute, you may have to send the player back though and you will have to pay the shipping. Although you could try to get a partial refund. Maybe say "ok, it only has 1GB but at least that works.. how about you give me half my money back?" |
Since its fraud, I just escalated one of the disputes to a claim, and requested full refund.
wish me luck with paypal. |
I tried to communicate with him for a partial refund of 75% of the sale price, since its 1GB of 4GB, but he didnt agree

Re: 4GB chip, mp3 plays only 1GB
ashley_rb posted a pic of a real 4GB chip
Here is a side by side comparison. Numbers are a bit different, but they look pretty much alike. Re: 4GB chip, mp3 plays only 1GB
[nicksia] Hi, I found my self been hacked by this guy also (jungle.bookstore), he seems to be very clever. How about making a team complaint with ebay and paypal as well.[/b] Cheers
|
Hi, My player was suppose to be a 4gb the chip is SAMSUNG K9G8G08U0M, so I have a different problem.
I'm sure this guy is deliberately slow to get you past the 45 and 60 day limits for ebay and Palpay. Unfortunately I gave the guy the benefit of doubt only to be blown off by ebay. Hope you have better luck |
How about you ask for half of your money back. How much did you pay? If you paid like 30 dollars then it's a good deal. If you paid like 60 dollars just ask for half of your money back because right now it's a 1gb and not a 4gb. I don't know what to think right now though, how would he change the flash chip? How is that possible? I really doubt that samsung printed the wrong serial number. Think about it, K9NB is 4gb, like yours is supposed to be. So it basicly has the right memory chip. But wait.....it's only 1gb. And I guess there's a big quoincidence, if you change the B to 8 (very similar) it will be 1gb. Yeah right.........
Or, use that program that he wants to send you that like fixes your players memory or 'properly formats' it. Then I would borrow a friends webcam, or phone, or digital camera and make a shrort video of the computer displaying 4gb, and you load your player with more than 1gb, and then you play the file thats right after 1gb. |
Either way, i'll urge that those who got scammed by this seller to immediately open a dispute, and demand a partial or full refund.
He is deliberately trying to stall for time and hopefully most of those cheated would just get frustrated, throw the player away, and forget about the whole issue. So open a dispute now if you have not done so. |
