Help with Digital Mp3 player with FM

I am having this Mp3 player called 'light wave' with 1 gb capacity, +++! yesterday I found it showed no files in the memmory, but the memmory was filled up36%. I checked on google and found this site. Downloaded the software full version of 3.0.42. Well I installed the mp3 utilities on my pc and went for upgrade thinking that this will resolve the problem. Out of four files I managed to upgrade two and while doing the third, my mp3 player went blenk and now neither it being detected by the pc nor it is getting on. What might have happened, and now what is the remedy? Please help me out!

You have 'updated' your player with the wrong firmware and have disabled (bricked) it.

Please note that in the majority of problems with mp4 players, firmware is the last thing thats at fault. You should never flash foriegn firmware to your player unless it is already 'dead'

You mean now I will have to play with the hardware? just checked the link you had given above. the photos show a different player, i think that is mp4, mine is a simple mp3. Any way should i go with the screw driver now or their is any alternate you may suggest? You say that I should not have tried to upgrade, than what was the procedure I should have undertaken, please let me know so that i dont mingle with the stuff again. My files were shown lost, but the memmory showed 36% occupied. Should I have gone for format?

Now Please help me recover the player funtionality, as of now, I tried three batteries, but it is not getting on, on its own, and is neither getting detected by pc as I said earlier. My player is "1GB Digital MP3 Player with, FM, voice recorder etc", the firmware version shown on the player before getting corrupt was 3.0.42: 2004. Please guide me specific to this player, yes mostly I was using this player as pen drive for data transfer and storage. I hope you will be able to guide me and equip me with the piece of knowledge, I am unknown to.

Your mp3 player should have come with a CD utility. Most of them do. If it did, on that CD you should find a file with a file extension of .bin or .fw.
That is the compatible firmware you'll need to restore it.
Yes, what i would have done is do a format. I have seen cases firsthand where there appeared to be nothing on the player yet it was 20%, 30% even 50% full. A format always seemed to fix it.
You may have tried to update it with 'mp4' firmware rather than 'mp3'
If you don't have a CD with firmware on it you can try obtaining one here http://www.s1mp3.org/en/downloads_fw.php#standard

Please read the warnings and download instructions carefully before you attempt to recover your player and only use 'standard mp3 player' firmware.

Yes I have the CD and I just checked the firmware folder the file is"7565_050316FM" window show it as Bin file 2735kb. If this is right than should I start now with the instruments? Please advise if this is the right firmware?

Yes, considering that your mp3 player is dead thats the one you can use to restore it.

I thought I had lost my player really, and was wondering how, shorting the IC could revitalise the circuit, to be honest, as it was dead only, I took the risk, but wonderfully it came back to life! I hope this trick works in future also and to all players.

Now should I upgrade the software with the latest any time, will it enhance the player features or be with it as it is. Do let me know if you have some enhancing formula for my player, one again Thankyou very much!

Ok.. now.. leave it the way it is. Please don't try to upload any other kind of firmware to it. The firmware you have is all it will need. You can't gain any extra features or special performance enhancing whatever by a firmware upgrade.
Just leave it and put the CD somewhere safe in case it needs the firmware again.

If you want more features, buy an mp4 player... colour screen, videos, mp3's radio, picture viewer etc. And as always don't try to upgrade it either.
