Real 4gb but Folder problem

Just thought I'd tell you of my experience!

My player is a 4GB Nano look-a-like LSC_97101_10 Wilson 9.0.48

And guess what? It really does have 4GB!!! (I followed the HowTo on this site twice just to check it was right the first time!)

Mind you its not all roses!

The navigation isn't great but I wasn't expecting brilliant when you only pay £40 for it! However I have came across a problem:

You're probably aware of the issue with having more than 99 items within the root, but it goes a little deeper.
I created folders corresponding to my albums under a folder called Music (nice and simple!), however I had approximately 25 folders in the folder music. This caused a problem in that, when I tried to navigate between the albums in the music folder it just went back to the track that was being played previously.

There is a work-a-round create sub-folders beneath music and only put 5 or 6 albums in them. (5 or 6 work I haven't had time to experiment with larger numbers yet!) I know not a great solution, but it does mean you can navigate between albums!

I'll experiment some more when I get time and try to figure out whether it's the folder sizes or the number of folders that causes the problem.

davec64 , when you navigate to the folder you want to play do you press 'play' or 'Menu'? I have to highlight the first song in the folder and press 'menu' in order to play the music in that folder. Yours might be different though.

As for the folder problem, you could make folders under music labelled 'A to E', 'F to J', 'K to O' etc listing your albums alphabetically. That might knock the number down a little

I'm the same as you, I have to press Menu to select the folder then Menu to select the track.

Good idea with the folder naming!

I'm going to have a play this morning and see if it's the folder size or the number of sub-folders this morning!

I was also wondering if it had something to do with the path length, 255 characters in the path = 1 byte (if memory serves me right!), although looking at the lengths this shouldn't be a problem.

Anyway off to play and see what I can come up with! I'll post back what happens!

I've had a play, and managed to get up to 12 albums in a folder now, I don't know how stable this will be, but I'll monitor it!

I'm having the same issue. So far the maximum number of folders I've been able to get within a folder is 7, but I'm currently having a problem with 5.

Hi logicgate,

Have you tried the Howto HERE

I followed it through twice just to make sure then formatted my player as FAT32 (Has to be FAT32 as FAT only supports up to 2gb)

Reformatting may help with stability!

I haven't gone above 12 folders yet as I haven't had the time to test it (damn work, really inconsiderate!!) But I will test more folders as soon a I get the time, as I suspect the reformatting may have helped.

Yes, that was the first thing I did. I'm going to run more tests as well.

Well here's the latest!

I ws using it fine, and completely drained the battery. So being the bright spark that I am, I though I would plug the USB cable in a give it a little drink of juice.
That's where the problem started!
I left it charging not really paying any attention and came back a little later. I noticed the egg timer flashing on and off the screen. I picked it up for a closer look (the eyes aren't what they use to be!) The USB cable was extremely hot to touch! I unplugged it and left things to cool down.
It is now as dead as a Dodo, absolutely no response from it at all!
So it looks like I've fried it!

If your's is new, just be careful charging it and keep an eye on ti! I had only left mine charging for approximately 15mins.

Ah well we live and learn!

Has anybody else got any fried players?

We could get together, glue them together and make a really useful door stop!
