Default Folder Organization

I recently acquired a "ChiPod" (1 GB Nano clone) and have been spending a lot of time trying to get it to work the way I want. I'm *almost* there, but I have an issue that I think is a common problem but that I didn't find in my initial forum search.

How do you organize your music folders? My initial thought was to create a top-level MUSIC folder, with sub-folders for each artist, and sub-folders within the artist folders for albums. However, I'm finding that with only 9 artists (and 10 albums) that I've created a directory structure that can't be browsed. In my experiments, I seem to be limited to no more than 7 sub-folders per folder, and sometimes fewer.

Thanks!

you may have just reached you 1GB limit if you have 9 artist and 10 albums then you should have about 100 songs on the player you may not have any more space to put more folders and songs.

No, I've only used about 15% of the space.

The navigation issue seems to be a common one; I'm just trying to figure out what the exact issue is and how people work around it.

Hi LogicGate

I am having exactly the same problem - every time I try and navigate to a new band's folder from the music player screen, I get stuck on the folder list screen, then it flicks back to the player and continues with the original band.

For instance, if I want to change from Coldplay to Razorlight, and Coldplay is currently playing, after a slight pause, Coldplay scrolls horizontally across the list of band folders, and before is can select the Razorlight folder with arrow keys, it flashed back to play Coldplay again.
Any answers?

Thanks
Brad

So far I'm having success as long as I have no more than four sub-folders within a folder.

The real maximum may be as high as seven, but unfortunately my player has a problem with folder browsing when there's more than one screen page of entries. Limiting myself to four sub-folders works around that issue as well.

My player has three issues with regards to browsing files:

1. Normal file navigation stops working if the number of sub-folders within a folder exceeds a certain limit. The limit appears to be seven sub-folders but may be less in some circumstances.

2. There's a bug in the firmware's file browser. The player displays up to five folders and files per screen page; however, the folder or file that should appear at the top of each page (other than the first page) isn't displayed correctly.

3. The player makes no attempt to sort the files -- all browsing is based on the sequence that that folders and files were added to the player.

Others have mentioned that issues #1 and #3 happen on their players, too, so I'm assuming that at least those issues are common. Does anyone else have issue #2?

I'm working around these issues by limiting the number of sub-folders within a folder to four (because of issues #1 and #2) and making sure I put music on the player in alphanumeric sequence, the sequence I want to browse in (because of issue #3).

Does anyone else go through all this trouble?

My firmware info is:

LG MP3 PLAYER
1s101v12
CM60022
2007/01/18
ACT_V9.0.50
