Default Onida Mp4 Player Upgrade

Hi, a friend of mine just gave this mp4 and i want to know if theres any fw upgrade available for it. This is what says on fw version:

Fw: B002G2_V1.6
Date: 2006/08/30
Core: 3.5.37
Date: 2005/03/15

And when i try the Mp3 Upgrade tool says:

Device name: S1 Mp3 player
Productor: Wilson Co. ltd.
Version: 3.5.37

The device its pretty nano look a like , its 1GB and im pretty sure its chinese. So, if theres a new fw, can someone please tell me where to get it , and if it has something new ?

thanks all.

Onida, If the player is working fine do not do anything to it's firmware.

You should only ever consider flashing firmware to a player if it is already 'dead'.

The words "Firmware Upgrade" only ever apply to the exact version of firmware obtained from the manufacturer, specifically for that player only and no other. It is unlikely that a manufacurer would release a new version for a specific player. Never, ever flash firmware you find on the internet to your player... even if it says it's the same version. The ONLY exception, as i've said, is if your player is already 'dead'.

You cannot magically gain extra features on a player by sending a different firmware version to it... it just doesn't work like that. You player is doing what it is made to do. There are no extra features to be gained at all. A foriegn firmware file in the latest version will just kill it.

It would be like trying to run a new GameCube game in an old 80's NES

If it's working fine then enjoy it.. it's a free player from a friend. Why mess with it?

Why not to upgrade your mp3 player:

There is many hundreds of factories making these nano clones. They mostly use actionchipsets
Be aware , just because it uses a actionchipset dosnt mean it is the same as another actionchipset player for example:

The screen size varys from 1.5" to 1.8" on these players
this means that the firmware file must be modified for the size of screen and also the make of screen , if its a sasmung screen it will need a samsung drive . No if you have a mp4 with a toshiba screen and you try to load a firmware with a samsung screen driver in it, your player will think its a samsung screen and it wont display anything

Because its the wrong drive for the screen it wont affect your player but it will make it hard because you now need to find the right firmware , otherwise youve got a screenless video player

This rule also applys to electrical components.
IE the radio may be toshiba or it may be unbranded. This is the sort of thing which causes the player to fail , You load the wrong firmware with a toshiba driver for the radio , and actually the radio is unbranded and incompatible , this causes hardware prblems and you will most likley need to then open up your player and do the "Dead player recovery guide"

Ive read alot of the posts on this site , I dont often post back , 99% of the time people brake/brick there players from doing this id say afetr you brick your player its about a 50% chance you will be able to fix it(even then youll still have to open it up).

Just because a firmware is the same verison number it does NOT mean its compatible.

So please dont try to upgrade your firmware , very often the only advantage of even trying is differnt games built into the firmare (You may end up with no games- not work the risk)

Hope this helps

Someone mshould post a long writeup about bad firmware ect and make it a sitcky

Yes they should lite , but no one would read it. Especially new owners right after they open the box, or start having problems.

I doubt some would even bother to take notice of a big bold warning in red letters as soon as you open the box saying "Do not under any circumstances attempt to 'upgrade' this players firmware"

You can tell some until you are blue in the face not to do it.. but they'll do it anyway. All you can do is say "I told you so"
