ChinaPod Frustration

Hi,

Just got a 4gb "ChinaPod" with the following displayed in sys setup

MP3 Player

LSD_9312_10

2006-11-03

9.0.48

2005-01-09

The radio an phone book etc work fine, but when i try to access movies/music etc. I just get the unfriendly blue screen with a nice big "DISK ERROR!" message. I can also not recognize the device as a formatted drive from my comp. to put more media on it with.

So I'm wondering a couple things. How might I resolve the "Disk Error!" dilemma? An what format would movies need to be in (screen size, format, etc) to play them? Any insight would obviously be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

no-pro, the first thing you should do is format the device with MP3 Disk Tools from the mini cd that came with the player.
The disc also has a program to convert a number of movie formats to AMV movies files that will play on your mp4.

Ya I was hoping that was the case however I wasn't lucky enough to recieve any accompanying disc with any tools. Could I bother you to maybe point me in the direction of finding these tools elsewhere? Or perhaps an effective alternative? I didn't see them in the downloads section on this site.

Either way your advice is definately helpful, thank you. :)

no-pro are you sure you didnt get any disc? You might have gotten the small disc not the regular kind but mini so check again.

Ya no disc came with it. Of course it came from china off ebay. So I'm hoping I can find an alternative. I wonder if I bothered contacting the vendor if they would even take the time to send something?

no-pro , you can download MP3 Utilities here
v4.09 http://www.mympxplayer.org/amv-conve...6mb-df468.html
v4.07 http://www.mympxplayer.org/mp3-playe...407-df429.html
v4.05 http://www.mympxplayer.org/amv-conve...-mb-df348.html

There are still various other versions in the Downloads > Tools section. So go there and have a look.

Are those all amv converters or can one be used to also format the device? Sorry for so many questions, I've never had a reason to worry about such things until I got this this p.o.s. ;)

I wish it just came with a ******* manual. While I am a tech, I obviously have minimal experience in this department so again I appreciate the help.

no-pro , those installation files are the complete suite of utilities you'll need. The AMV convertor, Disk Tools, Upgrade Tool, etc are all within it.
