Why do you want to flash the firmware ??

The firmware on this site is ONLY for the recovery of players that have died.

They're not there to 'upgrade' players that work fine.
Your mp4 players already have the only firmware version they were meant to have and flashing a foriegn firmware file to them will most likely disable them.. permanently.
If your players are missing certain functions or features mentioned in the sellers advertising, or written on the boxes, then you've been misled. There won't be a firmware file that can magically give it functions it wasn't designed for.

So yes.. if you flash any of those firmwares to them... you will 'destroy' them with little chance of recovery.

Default Re: Which firmware to flash

Hmm
you flash WLAN Router from Linksys with dd-wrt to gain more feactures
and more stable hardware
you flash bios from mainboard to gain new features and solve problems
you flash writers (CD/DVD/Video recorder) to gain new features,
more compatibly to other formats, solve problems ...
I am used to that ...

Why can't i update this:
2006/08/15
CTW500_S75

to the latest 9.050?
And first make a dump with the s1mp3 tool?

Why are there images at s1mp3 for example:
3.68 version ? Can't i update and get some new menu functions and features?
I know if there is no radio, there want be one avaible, but firmware updates always help with problems and new features!

So an update can't be done?
Why is it then on several sites described, like "s1mp3" that you can gain new features?

I just thought to make a dump with s1mp3 tool and then try,
just wanted to know which images i could try/use ...
So can somebody help me out or not?

No you can't.

A router is vastly different to an mp4 player in case you hadn't noticed

I'm saying an update can't be done and shouldn't even be attempted. You can't gain extra features in an mp4 player by a firmware 'update'.

Just because s1mp3 have certain versions, doesn't mean one of those versions will be even remotely compatible with your player. And show me where they say "You can gain extra features by updating a players firmware".. show me... PLEASE. I would really like to know.

Seriously, you can't compare a simple mp4 player to a WLAN Router from Linksys can you? You can't compare a DVD ROM or DVD Player to one either.
Just because some hardware devices can benefit from these updates... believe it or not.. doesn't mean that all devices do.
You can't even extract a full version of fw 9.0.50 using s1fwx. Oh sure you get a file as a result but if you take notice of the operations output report you'll notice errors in it. The resulting file will be missing some critical files needed to make a complete firmware dump. If it doesn't have a radio then a firmware update won't give it a radio if it hasn't got a FM Radio chip in it huh. The radio is HARDWARE.. not software.

It's simple.. if you flash foriegn firmware to your player it will die an early death. But as always, people do not believe this because they always think they know better. I could say "Go ahead and see if i'm lying, just don't come crying to me when your player dies" But that would defeat the purpose of me being here on this forum helping others.

I've said before, when it comes to mp4 players:

Is your player running Microsoft Windows? .. No? Then it doesn't need updating!

Just let me say this in advance:

"I told you so"

???

Look here:
http://www.mympxplayer.org/full-vers...500-df413.html
They say try this for more features ... why should they do that?
And the one who did the update has solved problems ... too + features

cobra98 , if you clicked the Download button, you will see a DISCLAIMER telling you that none of the firmware files would give you more functions, and only to use it for recovering DEAD players.

Yes, all the big names like Linksys, Asus, etc etc has firmware updates to improve and add additional features. But do you know which factory or company your player came from? You won't flash an Asus firmware into a Linksys hardware would you?

Here are some facts:

1. There is only 1 available firmware extraction software S1fwx v3.2, which currently ONLY supports upto v9.0.43 extraction, nothing above that. So no, nobody could help you extract the v9.0.50 firmware you have.

2. These player manufacturers DO NOT practice proper versions control. So even if you had 2 players stating the same version number, most likely the firmware coding would be slightly different, and not compatible. In other words, there could be thousands of variants of the same version number.

We have been in this forum for some time, and have seen hundreds or even thousands of dead players due to "firmware updates". Just have a look in the Dead Players section of the forum, and you will understand better.

umm hello? Did you READ what is being said there?

version 9.0.43 is not a replacement for YOUR 9.0.50. And by the way, thats not "s1mp3" and it does not say "that you can gain new features"
Why?
Take another look...
Does your mp4 player look anything remotely like the one in the picture? hmm ?

Well i've seen your pics and it doesn't. So what do you think?

There is much more to it than "CTW500"

I have downloaded the latest software from
www.tychonic.com
-> mpu306

With the upgrade tool following info shows:

S1 Mp3 Player
Wilson Co. Ltd.

for the first player:
9.0.50
for the second player:
9.0.43

9.0.43 is the software version correct?

The guy on this link:
http://www.mympxplayer.org/full-vers...500-df413.html

is talking of an upgrade possiblity, saying try update ...
so there a people which succeeded in upgrading correct?

Listen to us ok...

The firmware you have there... do you know what the player looks like? The player it came from?

If it doesn't look like your player... then it isn't compatible. Ok.. do you understand that?
