'ILLEGAL HDD' on the screen and wont open any files

Please forgive me if I am in the wrong place as I am new to this site.
I wonder if anyone out there can help me?

I have an HCT hmd180a mp3/4 player, I think its a Korean special
(it was a gift)
Everything was working fine, listening to music etc when all of a sudden I go to play some music, and it just says 'ILLEGAL HDD' on the screen and wont open any files.

Could anyone suggest anything?

Thank you

Try to connect the player to your computer and see if you can copy/delete files on it.

I would reformat the player with the provided software before trying anything funky with the firmware.

Re: MP3 / MP4 Problem

Please forgive me as I am not very tech minded, how do you reformat?

Re: 'ILLEGAL HDD' on the screen and wont open any files

Have a look at this thread here which will guide you through formatting your player: http://www.mympxplayer.org/how-to-re...ck-vt2400.html.

Sounds like a possible problem with the memory itself. Possibly a corrupt memory block. Formatting might help.

If that doesn't work, then run a check disk on your drive.

To do this:
1. Click [Start] and [Run]
2. Type in cmd
3. Type in
Code:

chkdsk /f /r d:
- Change the d: to whatever drive your player is displayed as in Windows Explorer.
4. You might have to press [Y] for "yes" if it saids the drive is in use.

Try that and let me know.
