Default song names are garbage (most of the time)

hi
this is a minor problem but a nuisance nonetheless
sometimes my player displays the name of the track with garbaged characters, sometimes it displays them correctly. i tried writing id3v1 & id3v2 tags with no luck. i use tag& rename 3.2.
the thing is i haven't been able to pinpoint the difference in the files when it displays the song name correctly and when it does not.
any clues??? TIA :?

red_guy , try to disable id3v2, and only have the information stored in id3v1 instead.
Also, are you using any other characters besides normal characters? Sometimes these players have problems trying to read and display the characters.

I have the same issue with some tracks and I haven't been able to identify the difference between the tracks that display correctly and those which do not.

lattesurf, you seem to be right thanks
i removed id3v2 tag and it worked, at least in one file
but if i recall right i believe i have seen correctly displayed songs in mp3 with id3v2... no strange characters used... with some time i'll research further
thanks again

confirmed: yes, i have some files that displays the name fine and they have both id3v1 + id3v2, so there must be something else screwing around

red_guy , these players are pretty temperamental regarding id3 tags. Some players can't read even the v1 properly.

Another suggestion would be to remove both v1 and v2 tags completely. And let the player read the filename directly.
