Default Memory mystery

Hi
Within last two days I receive 8 mp4 (2GB and 8GB) players of 4 different kind from 5 different sellers.

Everytime I decided to check if the memory isnīt hacked. I opened the disk manager. It allways (before I do anything) show me that the capacity is half-size than it should be.

With 6 players I allways do proces to remove memory hack. And without surprise the memmory allways remains half-sized.
I checked the chips serial number and acording to a some topic from this forum it seemed to be the "classic case".

After I donīt even why but I decided to check the chip No. ( "2GB player" ) with my older layer which has 2GB memory for 100%. Whow what a surprise, the number was the same.

But I have still believed that the memory was hacked. But today I received another two 8GB mp4 player. Of course I decided to do test for memory hack. I open the disk manager an as allways it show me that capacity is only half-size (4GB). And when I switch to "Particion and Encrypt it shows me that only 1GB is avaible. So I decided no to do this memory test and do the old way. It means I upload 7GB music to check the memory.

Formating the disk maybe I sometimes forgot to set "low format" but I really doubt it could disapear half of my memory. But you know, so many players and really diferent players from 5 different sellers. And I allway loose one half of my memory.

Do you know if anytime during the process (removing memory hack) could I do the misteake which could took me allways half of my memory.
I really doubt itīs possible but I also hope I wasnīt so unluck that all of this players are hacked.
Thanks for reply....

I think what you've done is fine. You can't do much wrong with a format (except if you interupt it of course).

Formatting and doing a low format as well as following the "Removing Memory Hack" guide will remove possible memory hacks.

It seems you have had a bad run of hacked players. REAL 8GB players are very hard to find at the moment. If you do, it would be expensive as well. Like the saying goes "if it's too good to be true, then most likely it's NOT".

nothing serious should happen if you interrupt a format, just start the format again and let it complete

OK, good. Whew! Forgot it was still formatting and clicked the disconnect hardware. Then it dawned on me what I had done. I did format it again right after that, so I'm OK.

Thanks!
