Default problem with firmware extraction

Hi all , i have a problem when i try to extract the firmware from my generic 1 gb mp3 player , i follow the instructions from here http://www.mympxplayer.org/viewtopic.php?t=66 , the program gives me a error
Quote:
<a>..<z> select device
<.> scan for devices
<?> display help
<~> exit program

$d
connect to device 'D:\'...
init device...
set device to f-mode...
get info from device...
device = 'S1 Mp3 Player'
manufacturer = 'Wilson Co. Ltd.'
firmware type = 'F285'
firmware version = 9.0.50
read boot record...
detect firmware size...
error: The system cannot read from the specified device.

warning: unknown firmware file
read flash...
error: The system cannot read from the specified device.

write to file 'dump.bin'...

---[ info ]--------------------------------------------------------------------
filename = 'dump.bin'
filetype = afi
md5 = 5EE43264955DF7227436C4BAB53EF681

---[ info:afi ]----------------------------------------------------------------
file id = 'AFI '
vendor id = 0x6977
product id = 0x6552
version = 9.0.50
date = 00/00/0000

+---filename---+ +---size---+ +-type-+ +---+ +--chksum--+
| BRECF285.BIN | | 16kb | | F285 | | B | | 27A0A2E8 |
| FWIMAGE.FW | | 6mb | | | | I | | 383F104C |
+--------------+ +----------+ +------+ +---+ +----------+

---[ info ]--------------------------------------------------------------------
filename = 'dump.bin.FWIMAGE.FW'
filetype = unknown
md5 = DA6A0D097E307AC52ED9B4AD551801FC

disconnect from device...
success.
Press any key to continue . . .
the program extracts just one 6 mb file ( dump.bin ) , not like in this picture from the guide

Click the image to open in full size.

when i run repair.bat , its say

Quote:
s1fwx v2.6 - copyright (c) 2005 wiRe (http://www.s1mp3.de/)
repair dumped firmware file...
backup file to 'dump.bi$'...
try to repair firmware...
error: unknown firmware file, repairing file failed
Press any key to continue . . .
i dont know what is happening , the player works fine , can the firmware still be "broken" ?

and if i try to open the bin file in s1res.exe i have an error

any ideas ?

where i can find a more actual firmware for this player ?

Thanks.

bahiense,

The reason you can't extract your players firmware is because s1fwx cannot extract it.

You're player is using FW version 9.0.50. S1fwx can only correctly extract and repair version 9.0.43 and below.

You should not attempt to flash any other firmware to your player as there are so many different versions out there you will most likely choose the wrong one and end up disabling it. Finding a compatible replacement can be almost impossible.

If your player works fine then leave it. Enjoy it.
It's much better to have a working player then a dead one.
