question about folder contents....
ok, so i have read reviews and checked out youtube for some video reviews and i have noticed something about the chinese mp4 players....
you cant choose the song(or folder) to play unless you keep clicking the button until you get to the song you want to play? however, i have read a number of times that you can only load 99 songs per folder? why? i come from the Creative Zen vision:M world (much better than the iPod). i generally never pick a specific song, i just hit random play and just listened. i am just wanting to know that if i hit random play on the chipod when i get it, its going to random play all folders, not just the one its currently in? I just dont see this being the case, i mean with 4GB players out there, thats a lot of files that would need to be sorted into playlists (groups of 99). I havent gotten my chipod yet, i hope its here this week and would like a little heads up before i get it. |
Re: question about folder contents....
the reason for the 99 files per folder thing came from firmware version 9.0.43 for a player made by MayIce Technology, a 1.5" screen 2GB player. There was a bug in the firmware that caused the player to crash if you copied more then 99 files in a folder.
They fixed the problem but the 99 files per folder rule stayed around. It really depends on your player. I have several players. On one I have 155 files in one folder with no problems. But I have another player that can only hold 47 files and i start to get reboot problems. its either the firmware or an issue with the sectors and waffers on the chip. Experiment with you player and see how it goes. Here's a thread about playlists thats really helpful: http://mympxplayer.org/playlists-vt1...light=playlist |
jo gobel , unfortunately the 99 files per folder is a common issue with most chinese players out there. These players are not exactly engineered the way Creative or Ipod are, so there are limitations to its abilities.
Random playback would only randomize the songs within a folder and not across your library of folders. There are some players that are able to contain all the songs in just its root folder itself, and are not limited to the 99 files. So this way, you can random play the full 4GB of music. |
thank you both.
I am waiting on my chipod from "lotsall" from ebay. currently on day 30 of waiting.... i will check what it will do when i get it, but if i do have to break down and do 99 files per folder, this is going to suck, 1000+ songs |
Re: question about folder contents....
wait, i think i have the same problem then. except i dont have the 99 song thing cause i havent put that much into my player. but yea, how come i cant see a list of songs in the root folder. i have to basically press next until i get the song i want. but when i choose to delete, bam, a whole list of song is there. wtf! wat would be the fix for that? i want a list of songs that i can use...argh

k_thao24 , what firmware version is your player currently using?
The older v3.5.xx series do not support filebrowsing, but only folder browsing. The newer v9.0.xx series firmwares however do support filebrowsing. |
Re: question about folder contents....
damn, i have the v3.5.37. and sorry for this, i know you guys will hate me, but can you give me a link to how to upgrade your firmware. thanks a lot.
|
k_thao24 , it is never recommended to upgrade any firmwares as it is most likely 99% going to brick your player.
Each firmware was specifically coded for each batch of players. As manufacturers find cheaper components, they need to change the firmware to suit the components. However, they do not change the version number when they do so. So you are more likely to brick it by upgrading (even to the same version number). |
Re: question about folder contents....
so you mean, i can never file browse then?

My Nano clone has version 9.1.50 and supports file browsing. It's somewhat lacking (can't display the full file names, just the first 8 or 10 characters if i remember right) and it is only accessible when playback is stopped, but it does fully support subfolders and more than 99 files per folder. 8) Random mode only works inside one folder though, that's why i keep all my songs in one folder. They are almost 190, no problems here. :D |
Re: question about folder contents....
ok ok....but i know i know...shouldn't mess with it or it'll "brick" your player....
but as far as im concerned, if i cant even file browse, i have no use for the darn player. i mean even if it is just the first 8 letters, that's better than pressing next 600 times or so. anyways how can i upgrade my v3 to like a v9? i can see all that extracting stuff, but dont really get how to "upgrade" it? |
k_thao24 , believe me i've seen 10 out of 10 cases where a firmware upgrade immediately bricks a player.
Moreover, v3.5.xx firmwares uses the ATJ2085 chipset (like you are using now). Whilst the v9.0.xx series uses the ATJ209* chipsets. Which in actual fact are 2 different chips. Although they perform almost the same functions. However, if you insist in "upgrading" to v9.0.xx, there is an upgrade guide here, which is really just the re-flash guide. http://www.mympxplayer.org/how-to-up...ayer-vt46.html |
You can't run a V3 series player with V9 firmware they have different hardware requirements.
But if you are willing to put in the time and experiment there is hope. File browsing was in fact first introduced in 3.5.37 but not many manufacturers made the effort to update. This did not stop the resourceful chipod owner though some found it was possible to extract certain components from file browsing enabled firmware and introduce them into non browsing versions with success. You have a couple of options, you can search the firmware archives for 3.5.37 firmware with file browsing and try them on your player in the hope that you will find a compatible version or you can try to modify your own firmware to include file browsing. No guarantee that either will work and you could end up trashing your player. There is a thread on s1mp3.org on how to try to add browsing here: http://forum.s1mp3.org/viewtopic.php...older+browsing |
Re: question about folder contents....
sorry, but id there another link to the program EasyFW 3.7. the link was dead. thanks
|
k_thao24, I managed to find a copy of version 4.0 beta, should work the same.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/gq99zn There are also a couple of copies of 3.6 in the downloads section. |

The dump.bin may not have been repaired after extraction. Try placing the dump.bin in the s1fwx folder and running the repair.bat.
|
Re: question about folder contents....
ok, i tried repairing it...but in the end, it says something about "repairing file failed"
