Default Newby who should have known better!

ops:

Sorry guys - another idiot here who didn't read the small print/use the common sense she was born with!

I've just bought 2 players from eBay: Neither have arrived yet but seeing as both are bound to be hacked, I thought I'd better register and start finding out what to do about fixing them/returning them

SG, you're being too harsh on yourself . I am pretty sure your players are hacked, but there are methods of recovering them . First of all, I'd try to return them and get my money back, but if you can't go here and read that howto:

You have absolutely no reason to feel stupid. When the players arrive check them using

http://mympxplayer.org/how-to-removi...ck-vt2400.html

or

http://teekobeach.com/howtoreformattheplayer.html

If they are hacks you can either contact the seller and ask for a full refund or if you paid with PayPal, file a claim for the item not being as described. Or you can chaulk it up to experience and do nothing but just live with the hacks.

If you leave a negative for hailitele he will leave a negative back and say "Very unreasonable buyer, with no response to email, not willing to communicate!!" even though its not the truth.

hailitele is one of the worse offenders for selling hacked players.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've got both those pages saved, ready for the 8GB* one.

BUT the good news is, this one...

4Gb 4G 1.8" Silver Blue Black Green Pink MP3/MP4 PLAYER

...has arrived and so far appears to be what it says. I couldn't get the case off to check the code without wrecking it, so just filled it with about 4GB of stuff and everything plays fine. I emailed the seller for conformation that it was a 4GByte (and not a 4GBit) in case I had to send it back and he says...

"It is a 4GByte MP3 player. But you have to know that the manuafacture is using the below method to measuring the capacity in memory.

1GB
=1,024MB(Megabyte)(Windows)/1000MB(manufacture)
=1,048,576KB(kilobyte)(Windows)/1,000,000KB(manufacture)
=1,073,741,824B(Byte)(Windows)/1,000,000,000B(manufacture)

Therefore, you can see that the capacity of the 4GB flash drive or 4GB MP3 will be around 4,000,000,000(Byte) in windows. If you have any problem, please contact me. Thanks!"

Does this make sense to any of you? I'm a total technophobe tbh.

I'm still going to format it but the mini CD that came with it wont work in any of my CD drives :? I'll let you know if the memory size changes after that.

StupidGirl,

Check ALL your files on the player. Play the first 10+ files then the last 10+ files and some in the middle to give you some randomness. A classic case of a hacked player is that even though you can upload 4GB of data to it, it won't play them. It would 'ghost' them onto the player, make Windows and your player look like it's on there by displaying them but when you play the file, it's only a 'ghost' so it will show up with errors.

I've also had a few players where the CD that came with the player is actually a BLANK CD!! Go figure.
