Default Formated player, not from 8GB to 17MB!

DH got a cheapie mp3/4 player and asked me to load music onto it, as he is computer illiterate. I found this site listed on a piece of paper inside the box. From skimming here, I thought there was a good chance the thing is hacked. So I tried the reformat thing, per instructions here. Only problem is we had a power failure while it was running, and now the '8GB' player says it has 17MB! This is such a weird number, I figure it can't be right. I don't know how to fix it. I know the player probably isn't 8GB, but it HAS to be something other than 17MB. What can I do?

Did you use the Memory Hack removal process using the MP3 Player Disk Tool?

If so have you tried repeating the process?

Yes, that is what I was doing, so I could see what the actual capacity was. When I try again, the box in the first step defaults to 17MB, and I don't know how to change that. So, any subsequent attempts still give me 17MB.

I think he ordered it from that halitele person on ebay. I've already filed a paypal dispute, so given the 'conditions' for purchase, I'll probably be out the money and get a negative on ebay. The neg I can live with, as I only have a score of 6 in feedback; I'll just open another account. But the money part pi$$es me off. That's what I get for letting DH shop for his own b-day gift, I guess.

Anyway, instead of the 8MB he thought he was getting, he'll be lucky to have 1MB, which I could have bought legit for half the price!

Most halitele players turn out to be 1GB. When you go to the Partition tab in the disk tool can you move the slider?

If you are going to leave feedback for hailite, don't use a negative. the negative you willl get will be really bad.

instead leave a neutral. you can still get the word out about the hack but hailite doesn't respond to a neutral. he'll only say something like "there are 2 drives, one .7mb and the other is 7.99GB. Its a load of crap but it will save from getting a neg.

About the 17mb - be sure to do the last part on the reformat instructions - use windows to reformat the player then check. it should take you up to 512mb or 1GB.
