mp3 file names and viewing jpg pictures

I received an mp4 player, from hong kong, today. It was supposed to be a 2GB but when I formatted it using the mp3 tools program, it went down to 1GB. Oh well, i'll live with the 1gb. I copied some songs and jpg pictures onto it before I formatted it and the mp3 song names were strange characters and the jpg pictures wouldn't display properly. If I go into the local folder and list the mp3s, the song names are ok. After I formatted it, I had hoped it would fix these problems but it hasn't.

I deleted the mp3s and added some again and now the file names are ok. Could it be a fat16 - fat32 thing? I changed the SYS Setup->Disk format to FAT16.

Also, I think my problem with the jpg pictures is the size. I changed a 640x480 down to 160x120 and now it displays ok. Is this the way these work? It is kind of useless for viewing pictures since all the pictures I take with my digital camera are 640x480.

the firmware version is 9.1.51 ACU7515_S75

Does anyone have any idea as to what I can try next?

I tried putting jpg pictures on my mp4 player today and the quality of the pictures wasn't that great. I was thinking that maybe if I had a picture with a lower resolution it would display better but how do I make my digital camera's photos at a lower resolution?

You would have to look at your instruction manual for your camera to find out how to change the resolution. Be careful though, if you change the resolution to a lower setting, the quality may not be good enough to make photo quality printouts from your digital camera.

Hi
I may have same player as you but mine is now in worse state than yours :-( & I need to try & recover it
Could you possibly do me a favour? Produce an s1clone image (raw flash memory copy) of the (empty if possible) flash memory using s1clone tool from s1mp3.de, and upload it to megaupload.com (it'll be a big file so would be good to compress first). All free software & upload site. Would be really grateful if you could
Cheers

About the pics, you'll have to live with them that way. There was an utility here made by alex2pb to rescale photos, or you could use IrfanView's batch conversion function.

As about the song names, DON'T USE WINAMP FOR TAGGING!!!! The problem lies in the non-standard way Winamp handles tags, and therefore they will be displayed corrupted on your player.

I use a freeware program called MP3 Tag Tools, that will fix your problem.

Good luck!

Thanks Th3_uN1Qu3! I've used irfanview before. Great little program. I'll give it a try. Does it matter which version of the ID3 tag should I use 1.1 or 2.x?

scatwell, I'm getting the image now. You were kidding about it being a big file. It is already at 200MB and growing. How big should it get?

It got a semaphore timeout during the cloning and it stopped downloading at 291MB. Is there something else I should/could do?

Nothing.

You have to format your player before getting an image.

As about the tags, the player uses version 2.0 but treats them as 1.1 (tags cut off if they are too long). Strange behaviour, but that's the way it is.

Anyway, don't bother using s1clone, i'll show you later why, just look in the topic i'll make about it.

Hi, I have just had something similar arrive, but when loading MP3s the player shows 2 files. One appears as you would expect (something like 03 - Song Name.mp3) doesnt play (format error message). The other has a _. infront of it and does play. Any ideas?
