Default Rockchip firmware upgrade kills speaker

i have a rockchip player and have successfully modified the firmware and updated my player on several occasions, i have also killed it on a few occasions, but its all in the name of experimentation!!!

my query is that my player has external built in speaker but when i apply the firmware update the internal speaker does not function as normal. it will work when i plug in my headphones. i have had to disconnect the wires in the player for now.

now i must admit that i took a risk with the firmware as none came with my player and the seller (pushplaydigital - enough said!!!***@##'@) would not entertain me for the original firmware. so i searched and found matching firmware number.

the upgrade went fine with he latest version of consumer update (2.81) but, as i say the speaker failed.

has anyone been able to flash their rockchip and still have internal speaker functionality??

i now have another rockchip player that i would like to mod (as the interface to these players is UUUUGLY )

the new player is here BTW - excellent site, very, very, very, very good, fast, efficient and ALWAYS answer emails

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5657

so, any answers would be great

ps Uxcell have same player on their site and a firmware download available too, i have also asked DX for firmware as none came

cheers all

Let me tell you that your rockchip device is a real beauty!!!
Have you been able to discover which factory is the manufacturer?
are the control really touch sensitive?
LOL... I wouldn't even try to upgrade its firmware id I weren't sure that is its original one!!!
Can you give more details of the firmware u've applied?
I would like to buy one of this devices... I need ITS NAME!!!
lol... thanks in advance!!

your right, this player is a beauty, even more so because of the price.
This is a pure no-brander, no factory name and certainly no label on the unit, there may be something written inside the player but have not opened te yet.
The controls really are touch sensitive, much better than physical clicky ones, i have just had to retire my nano clone player as the butons broke and wont play ball anymore, dont know if the work by heat like Teclast c260 and the LG chocolate though - but still, they are really touch and light up red when in use.

I know flashing firmware is dangerous but it is all part of owning these players, they are cheap and fun but i must say that i have not lost a player yet (!!!)

if you want a name brand rockchip then your best bet is to buy a Teclast player, the c260 is almost identical to this player and is based on rockchip also. and with that you do get a factory/company behind it and official firmware updates etc - but if you buy one of these thst i have then your on your own to experiment and hope that someone on forums like his can help you out in times of trouble.

i have not flashed this player yet, but supplier is asking their supplier for the firmware so i may do it if all is ok.

makd511...
What I've get to know by investigating is that you player is a Omega V88, distributed by a Chinese company named SourcingMap the link is here
It wouldn't be hard to get it from USA. Surely they don't manufacture the device, which would be important to get the right firmware.
Concerning PDAs, I do have a rockchip 2.2 device made by some TJD Information Co., model SYM-417, TJD gracefully reject to send the firmware to end users, anyway I know is a walker firmware. so I will start to play a little with it.
If something goes wrong I mainly use a Meizu M3 which is my baby toy as deliver the best sound I've heard in a PDA... iPods included. I am more into the sound dept. than in videos.
You did use ConsumerUpdate to install the firmware really?
thanks in advance,
Daremo

hi
to my knowledge Uxcel and Sourcing map are the same people, sourcingmap are the bulk suppliers whilst Uxcel is the consumer end.
i think you are right that these 2 players are actually the same and i think they have both bought them from the same factory, the thing is that there are so many factories making the same style players, usually based on a copy idea of a popular item.

i have the firmware for the omega v88 from uxcell download section which may well work but my suppliers checking if they can get firmware too.

BTW i am also now a proud owner of meizu M6, got it this morning, i wanted a decent player for sound, all my other ones and rockchips are purly out of interest and to play around with upgrading etc. when i have finished messing with them i will give them to my kids to use.

i personally saw the omega player at uxcell before the one i have and i made the decision to go with dealextreme as the price $50 with FREE p&p

if you get one then have fun and dont take them too seriousley and if anyone has managed to upgrade a rockchip firmware and still have a functioning speaker please post and tell us the secret

I think you have a chance to get your speaker back.
I loaded a firmware using a different ConsumerUpdate and it KILLED all my internal memory.
I thought it had been finished so I ordered a MiniSD card so I could use my player.
Anyway I used another ConsumerUpdate with another firmware and I got the memory back again, but I lost the screen and I couldn't get into upgrade mode. So I had to do a hardware reboot to get it into upgrade mode, luckily it worked and when I reloaded my working firmware back the internal memory came back again!

It is risky using a different ConsumerUpdate because you could disable your button pad, and then you would have to do a hardware reboot to get into upgrade mode, but I found doing a hardware reboot quite easy and I posted a short guide to show how I did it.

I seems a small part of the firmware is in the ConsumerUpdate install, and it seems to affect the hardware a lot.

I have the same player and my speakers died too. It's a real shame, I even used the firmware update that came with it.

Those who have lost their speakers in rockchip 2.4" device give me you e-mail in a PM and I'll send you a firmware that maybe will solve your problem
Is from a Zima MP4 I had... I happily change it for a Teclast C260 emulator.
