My mp4 is not recognized by windows....

Anyone please help? My friend gave me an MP4 player but sad to say, when I connect it to a PC having Windows XP operating system, it was not detected. When I try to do the firmware upgrade on the setup menu of the player windows displayed the following message: "Unrecognized USB Device". When I double click the properties, it was an Unknown Device and it seemed that a driver is needed. This player has no name for brand or model. The only information i've got is its firmware version which is: 2005/03/15, 3.5.37, 2006/04/25, ACTS16D_37_SZG. Anybody who could help me how to solve this problem for windows to be able to recognize my mp4 player? Thanks in advance...

Landsky , try to use another usb cable as some cables that come with the players are faulty. Also try connecting to another usb port, and avoid using a usb hub. Lastly, try connecting to another computer and see if it detects the player.

If the player functions properly, please do not attempt any firmware upgrades as you would most likely brick it instead.

Thanks for the advice...

Good day... Thanks i have fix the problem before I read the replies here... Correct, its just a matter of USB cable... What I did, was I disect the cable from both ends of the connector and found out that in one end it was broken... I use a tester to check for connectivity for each of the wire that is why I was able to find it... Then I joined them using a soldering rod... And that's it... My player is now working... Anyway.... thanks for the concern of those giving advices....

I have tried the new usb and I have tried an old mp3 player and it works but the new one only comes up as Unknow Device also if you do a search for a driver it can not find one for it. and it only comes with a 98 driver

any Ideas or is there somewere you can download a driver

DND , sometimes it could be due to your PC's OS. Which OS is your PC using by the way?

Windows XP pro on PC is funny that it picks up the old player but not the new one

Also windows XP pro on Laptop that come with it

DND,

Have you tried another USB port on your desktop computer and see if that detects your new player?

Also, does your laptop pick up your new player ALL the time or sometimes it doesn't pick it up? I'm thinking it could possibly be the USB connection on the new player that's the problem. It's a possiblity too.

Re: My mp4 is not recognized by windows....

DND,

Good day from Kalibo, Aklan, Philippines. You said that your laptop was able to detect your player but your desktop doesn't. Here are my suggestions:

1. Try other USB devices on your desktop. If goes all well on all ports, meaning, your USB port is in good working condition. If your device is not detected on one of the USB ports, then something is wrong with the port itself.
2. You have told us that your player is detected in your laptop, but not on desktop, meaning your player is in good working condition. The best thing you can do is re-install your operating system, if you know how to do it.
3. Next, upgrade your drivers that is needed by your OS. Example, if you are using WINDOWS XP Service Pack 1, then upgrade to Service Pack 2.
4. Or better yet, scan your computer for viruses, trojans, etc. Use norton anti-virus as for the many years i've been using it, it's very effective. Some malicious programs in the form of viruses might be interfering the normal operation of your pc including proper use of resources of the ports.

Thank you and I hope my suggestions will work fine for you...

My suggestion would be to never use Norton. :)

McAfee, Nod32, Kaspersky, BitDefender are all great antivirus programs that don't hog your resources. Also run periodic antispyware scans with software like Ad-Aware or Spybot. ;)
