Static/Interference
Hi all,
First time here, great site, so thanks whoever is responsible! I found this after being scammed over a 4GB Mp4 player/ iPod mini knock off.. but turns out it was 2GB though so it was still pretty cheap so I'm not heartbroken. Seller is already blacklisted here. anyway my question is - when I am listening to music there is a background staticky noise that seems to be in time with the equiliser graphic on the display. I assume this is either due to a bad contact in the display causing interference, or there is a firmware issue that maybe sorted out by a firmware upgrade. I've searched the forum but haven't seen this mentioned, so I was just wondering has anyone found a solution to this problem, or indeed has anyone else had this problem? Thanks in advance, zinzan. |
It's coz of the cheapo LCD driver. Go into Setup, LCD set and set DarkMode (backlight turn off time) to what you like. It'll save some battery life as well. :D
That should fix the issue, coz it did on my Nano clone. :) |
Re: Static/Interference
Hmm I spent ages trying to figure out how to turn the equalizer off and never thought of that!
I've set it to go off after 5 sec... it definitely improves audio quality a lot - some static still there but not as obvious as it was... 8) Still can hear it during 'quiet' songs though - so might disassemble player just to have a look see at the innards in case something is loose... Thanks for your suggestion! zinzan. |
Don't disassemble it, there's nothing interesting inside. The whole problem lies in the ATJxxxx chip itself, and it can't really be fixed.
You should try "Operation Big Freeze". Put the player in the freezer for a night (beware, put it onto plastic or paper first so it doesn't stick to your freezer) and if possible crank up the cold. Then move it to the refrigerator for a few hours. When taking it out, immediately wrap it into a thick cloth and throw it in the coldest corner of your house so it warms up as slowly as possible, this is the key to succeding. After another few hours when you're sure your player has reached room temp, take it out of the cloth and enjoy. :D 90% of the static should be gone now, even static produced while watching video. It may sound crazy but it did work on my unit. if you search around the forum you will find the guy who proposed this, and some of his even weirder methods of improving sound on these players. Good luck! 8) |
Anybody tried the above method? My player got little interference.

My mp4 player and my mobile phone are in my freezer. Will report the result later...
