Default [on/off] switch question and games is disabled?

Ok, this seems like it will probably have an obvious answer, sorry if it does.

I recently got a new mp4 player, it's a Speed Digital MV-7. It has a sliding on/off switch on the side, which i have been using to turn it on and off. My old mp3 player had no color screen, but menus seem to work in the same way and buttons have the same function. To turn that on or off, i had to hold down the play button. If I removed the battery then replaced it, it said Starting... for a few seconds before loading normally.
This mp4 player says Loading when I turn it on for a little bit, and then loads normally. However, if I hold down play/pause, it goes into the same sort of standby mode.

What I want to know is will I cause damage by turning it off completely using the on/off switch? Is it better to use the standby mode and only turn it off when charging?

Also, it is 4gb, and thankfully is not hacked. It has firmware 9.0.50, which I understand cannot be extracted yet? It has a games option in the menu, but it is disabled. I'm curious as to what the games are.

Sorry for the long post.

#1. Turning the player off via the off switch will only mess up the clock (which i bet you don't need), slightly increase the startup time and save a nice amount of battery power.

#2. Only charge the player when it is ON. When you turn it off you physically disconnect the battery from the device, thus it won't recharge if the player is turned off via the switch.

Hope this answers your questions.

Thanks, as long as I know I won't be doing any damage. And I tried it in the off position, it still charges and still works when connected to USB, even if the switch is off.

Thanks for helping

Of course it still works when connected to USB. But it only shows that it's charging, it will be fully running on external power when the switch is off.

Use the player till the battery dies, turn it off, connect it to the charger for like 20 minutes and then disconnect the charger and turn it on. You'll see that the player didn't charge at all, at least that's what mine does. :P

adam_d , even with the switch at the Off position and the USB connected to the computer, the player would still show a charging screen. What happens is that the 2 data pins are connected to GND (logic '0') when the cable is connected. This the player reads as "charging mode".

When the USB is connected and switch at Off position, the player as Th3_uN1Qu3 mentioned runs off external power (ie USB power). So with external power & player reading as "charging mode", shows the charging screen. But in actual fact is not charging at all.

Leaving the player connected to the computer with the Off position for extended periods should be OK. But not when you connect it to the AC adaptor as the output current is much higher (approx 3-5 times typical USB). Which would likely fry your player.

It`s like an MP3 Player which plays Music CDs only.

OK, i've got the charging thing sorted, but does anyone have any idea about the games? The option is there in the menu, but the player just skips straight past. Are the games built into the firmware, or do I need to put some on myself?
