Default MP4 wont stop playing music through speaker at back

I purchased a (3rd generation) 8GB*2.0? TFT MP3/MP4 Player on ebay (from Halitele) and I realise now that it may only have 2gb. However
I have a problem that the music is being played through the earphones and the speaker on the back of the player. How can I stop the music coming out the speaker.

At the start it never did this, but my child I think has changed a setting? and I cannot find out how to reverse.

Any help would be appreciated!

Scotty66, could you provide a link or tell us what type of firmware you have? Someone around here might have the same one and know how to change it.

My mom has this one: 2.0 MP4 Player - which is currently at my house to download videos for her. It has a speaker in the back too, but I can't find anything in the setup menu regarding the speaker.

Also have you formatted it using instructions on the How to Remove a Memory Hack thread?

If not, I suggest you do so. That could be part of the problem. Until you remove the memory hack, you will have problems with the player.

It could be a faulty headphone socket, when you push in the headphones it operates a mechanical switch which cuts the audio feed to the speaker, it could be stuck on.

booboo773,

Thanks for your comments. The firmware version is 9.1.51

Also I tried to reformat, but I am having trouble with the process. I downloaded the utilities tool v 3.68 & 4.03 and rebooted PC. Using either version I get an error saying "no detected removable disk. Please check the disk connecting , or reboot system". I can change the drive and it shows the capacity, but when I go to the Partition & Encrypt the partition shows no MB and I cannot slide the setting encrpted disk capacity.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

robjones, thanks for your thoughts. I thought it may also have been the headphone jack. However when I first play or pause and play it will always play solely through the headphone fpr 10 seconds and then it will start playing both through headphone and speakers.

Do you still sthink it could be the headphone jack. If so how do I go about fixing?

Cheers

I have one player that you long press the record button to toggle the speaker on and off, you may have luck using a similar method with one of the contol buttons while music is playing.

I've got an MP3/4 player that also plays through the speaker when the headphones are plugged in. This makes me think this is either a bad batch (ie a problem with the mechanical headphone socket) or it is actually a 'feature' of the software.

For info, the firmware description is:

LG MP3 Player
TJ1304V2
TFT70012
2007/04/28
ACT_V9.1.51

Can anyone shed more light on this. This was bought via eBay's 'hailitele', and was advertised as a 2G device, but was actually only 1G.

Finally solved my problem -- sort of! Took the bottom off the thing (I noticed they'd put a sticker over one of the screws, so that presumably blows the warranty), and pulled out the speaker. It was just stuck to the side of the device, but with gentle leverage it came out. I've cut it off the wires and now it plays as it should.

OK, so you can't play it without earphones, but then when would you want to do it otherwise? The sound is not great with earphones, but it is many times worse with just the speaker -- glad to see the back of it.

So it's a fix -- sort of!

Trace the circuit, see if the speaker is wired directly across the headphone socket in parallel with the output or if it's connected across a switched socket.
