[solved] CellTech CT901 Mp4 Not Regognised by MP3set3_68

Hello,
please help me.

I bought a little 1GB mp4 player called a CellTech CT901. I think it's a Malaysian company but it probably just rebrands hardware from China.

It was working fine until a couple of days ago when I deleted some mp3 files and replaced them. Now it shows dozens of folders called "yyyyyyyyyyy" and hangs if I try to open any of them or if I try using the music player. It still works for files on a miniSD card I can insert.

I tried taking all files off the player and restarting it. I read about using S1fwx to backup firmware and MP3set3_68 to upgrade but when I try to use these I just get a message telling me that the "Device is Not Detected"

The player has an option in its Settings menu to Upgrade Firmware but that is a deadend at "Warning: Connect to USB" which cannot be selected. Connecting to the USB port of a PC just makes the user interface disappear to be replaced by an animation of a pc and cable.

Emails to CellTech's support team go unanswered. I'm completely stuck so I would appreciate any helpful suggestions.
Can I reformat the storage space of the player or will that wipe the firmware? Any ideas anyone? Please.

I will upload a picture of the player too.
Thanks
Liam

Firstly, determine what chipset you have.

It is very likely that your memory chip is hacked to show more than the actual capacity; since the firmware also resides on the flash (at the beginning), writing files to U disk past actual capacity will wrap around to the beginning and start corrupting the firmware.

S1fwx et al. are for Actions chipset players only.

liamliam , i'll suggest a format on your player using MP3 Utilities, the symptoms you mentioned fits those of a hacked memory chip.
Guide here http://www.mympxplayer.org/how-to-re...ck-vt2400.html

Try it out and see if the problems still persists.

Thank you very much for your helpful advice. I will follow the instructions and post again to let you know how it went.

LiamLiam,

Although your symptoms are that of a hacked player, your photo is of a Rockchip 320x240 device and to my knowledge, it is not common for these to be hacked.

I am no expert in memory issues like this, and perhaps someone here can advise how to restore a ROCKCHIP back to it's former glory - Liam's player is not a AMV type....

LiamLiam's player is here: http://www.mympxplayer.org/album_sho...php?pic_id=428

LiamLiam,

In addition, regarding your question "Can I reformat the storage space of the player or will that wipe the firmware? Any ideas anyone? Please.
"

When I have used Windows Format to FAT32 on my Rockchip device, it HAS NOT removed the firmware.

My player(s) are here, and you can see that the black one has the same menu as yours.

Is is completely safe to format the player, the firmware is stored on a seperate chip which can only be accessed in a special mode called RockUsb mode and only ConsumerUpdate program can access and format this memory.
So just go ahead and format it windows, it should hopefully solve the problem, unless the memory itself is defective, in which case you may have to return the player for a replacement.

Thanks everyone,
I used windows to reformat the player and it seems to work alright at the moment.
It's a bit worrying though that the mp3 tools can't be used with it. When I try it just says that there is no player found. Does anyone know a way around this?
Thanks again for your help. I now have a working player - fingers crossed - and it is still almost 1gb :)

liamliam,

If you have a player other than a ACTIONS chipset player, you will have problems formatting it using the MP3 Player Utilities at most times.

That's great news, LiamLiam.

Basically, a lot of these Chinese players come with completely inappropriate software which bears no relevance to the actual unit itself!
:) Be happy though :) - you have one of the best 'cheap' players - i.e. a Rockchip player. The tools you were trying are for the AMV format players, which are basically old technology now.
The Rockchip 'solution' as it is often referred to, offers excellent sound quality with great xvid (.avi) movie playing capabilities. To my knowledge, most if not all Rockchip units have TFT LCDs and so 'ghosting' of fast moving images is all but extinct.
Rockchip players are much more stable, and user friendly - and as you have found out, you can format the player in Windows without destroying the Firmware...
...on the subject of firmware, please don't try and upgrade yours! One of Rockchips (few) failings is that the Firmware is specific to a player, and with 99% certainty, won’t work correctly on other players. Even if you think you found the same version online somewhere ( e.g. 00.00.0017), the chances are, it won’t work.
You might want to get experimental later on when you’re bored with your player, but until there is a way of backing up your players own firmware, I believe it’s not worth messing around with (others may argue to the contrary!). Some Rockchip players like the more expensive ones from Teclast have regular firmware updates from the manufacturer, but in general the cheaper ones don’t (that’s possibly why they only cost $50~$60!).
When you decide to start making your own movies, check back to this forum on use with AviConverter and Xilisoft’s DVDtoMP4. A few things to remember:
The Rockchip player needs it’s Movie Audio to be converted as MP2 – not MP3.
The screensize of your player is 320x240. I have found 20FPS works, with the audio encoded at 44100.

Thank you all for your help

My original query has been answered.
I have more questions about file formats for the player but will search existing threads and start a new one if necessary.

Thanks again
