Hard time with a new MP4 player.......I GOT IT!!!
 

I have been doing some research, but I can not find any info (or even pictures) about it.

I got MP3's on it and JPEG's, which work great however when I put AVI's on it, and then play them, it says "File Format Error" and then the display turns so all the letters are backwards and the screen turns to "portrait"???

The CD that came with it is basically junk, I used a converter from there but that did the same thing. Also, I have downloaded many others. I have tried MP4's, AVI's, AFS, AMV's, all with the same result. I mistakenly deleted the sample video that came on it, or else I would have studied that some.

This site has been a ton of help, I just need alittle push to get started with video's. In the "System" section it says Ver: 01.04.0000 w/ a date of 2006-12-08. I think that it is a Rockchip based player. That is about all I know.

I did get it for $20 off eBay, so I really did not expect too much

There is plenty of topics covering this issue of video conversion for rockchip...
If you don't want to waste time... download AVIConverter 4.0 in this site... and convert any video you have, to your device according with its screen resolution, I bet it is 220x176.

I still cannot get it to play video, I converted an AVI file using the ViDrop program and the AVIConverter 1.0 (I could not find where to download AVIConverter 4.0, all I see is the AMV Convert tool??). I used 220x176 15fps and 64 bit audio and transfered it and got the same "File Format Error" Should I be putting it in a folder or something on the Player???

I am just using a AVI file I got off Google Video

I have to be overlooking something simple right?? Is there a sample video that I could get to work somewhere?

What you have done so far is ok.

AVIConverter 4.0 is here.
If this don't work then you must use a special version of AVIConverter which turn video in -90°, this is here AVIConverter turned 270°

Your rockchip device will play videos, it's just a matter of know the trick.

You might try a different size like 208x176 and see if that helps.

When using Aviconverter4, what is very important ( I found ) is that the output file (i.e. the one you are creating) must have .avi manually typed in for the file name.

e.g. a file which has been created on Aviconverter named "movie" will not work....but "movie.avi" should do (in my experience).

By the way, with almost 100% certainty, .avi movies you download from the NET will not work directly on this machine - they need to be converted into a very specific Rockchip-friendly format, which Aviconverter does.

For example, it will just completely refuse a movie which is not in its native resolution of 220x176.

I want you to try and get successes out of Aviconverter first, as it is the most straight-forward piece of software for converting to Rockchip formats. Once this is achieved, I will tell you about the delights of Xilisofts DVD2MP4 converter (a bit more complicated to use, costs $44, but does give better results). If you can get Aviconverter to work, we know your machine is a 'goodun' ! :lol:

PS - please don't be tempted to update your firmware (until you decide to get experimental!) as this will almost certainly screw up your player until you find the appropriate firmware and Consumer Update combination (Needle in a haystack!)

...I should also add to my note above, that the Audio format for movies is MP2, NOT MP3 - I had a quick go with ViDrop, and as I remember, this gives the MP2 option.

I GOT IT !!!!!

It did take the AVIconverter 4.0, however it needed the one to rotate it.

I am converting a movie now, so I am not sure what will happen with the 16:9 but we will see.

It is funny you said "don't be tempted to update your firmware" I had the back off last night looking for the numbers but did not see any. But it is my sons present so I had better leave it alone and get my own.
