Default What happened to my player?

Hallo everybody!

I read this forum from a lot of weeks, and it helped me a lot with my Mp4 player (yes, I've been hacked on Ebay too... ).

Now I have a big problem with my daughter's Nano II clone player. It was ok with Mp3 files and Jpeg files, but as she tried to upload and play an amv converted file (the 96x96 resolution was ok for the player), the player got crazy...

Now it shows a timeglass that appears and disappears each 5 seconds on a black screen. If I attach the player to my PC (Windows XP Pro system), it recognizes the player each time the hourglass appears and it disappears from computer disks each time the hourglass disappears.

This, after 2 or 3 minutes of being recognized and cancelled, recognized and cancelled each 5 seconds, also locks my PC.

What do You think I can do with this player?

The firmware (it's the same than my son's player so I could see it) version appers like that:

B0 08GBM18007
ver. 9.1.51

My player says that it is an Action firmware, this ones only say what I wrote up here...

Can You please give me Your appreciated help?

Thanks a lot!!!

Marco

Read the "Dead Player Recovery Guide" in the Dead Player forum.

Also check your NAND flash chip to make sure its capacity is really what you purchased.

Thank You Lolita!

I am sure that the flash memory is 4GB as declared, because I bought 2 players (one for my son and one for my daughter) from an European seller who is very serious and professional, and as I have been cheated once with my personal player (1GB instead of 4GB) I controlled the new purchased players the same day they arrived.

Once I said that I just have one question: can I apply the Dead Recovery procedure also if the PC doesn't recognize the player?

Thanks a lot for Your help!!

Marco

TheGuardian , the Dead Player Recovery guide is meant for players which are no longer being detected on the computer. What it does is to force a "reboot" on the player so that it'll re-install as a new usb device.

It`s like an MP3 Player which plays Music CDs only.

The situation at the moment is:

Following the dead recovery procedure now my PC recognizes the player as a "USB 2.0 (HS) ADFU Device.

I can't see it in the My Coputer devices.

If I try to run Mp3 player Update Tool it lets me wait for 396 minutes and then says that the program is loched for a C++ problem and it shouts down.

Any idea?

Thanks a lot!!

TheGuardian , uninstall the current installed version of MP3 Utilities and install various other versions instead. There are eg 3.68, 4.05, etc. Some versions are known to hang with some players.

Thanks once again Lattesurf... :-)

Now it worked... I have been able to put a firmware in it, now it recognizes the player again as a USB disk and I can see it in Explorer as removable disk.

I formatted it with Windows, then tried to charge in it a 9.0.50 bin I downloaded on the website, but now it gives me blank screen and nothing more...

I just have to continue trying with different firmwares until one of them works, right?

I have a twin working player of the broken one.
How can I extract it from the working player so I can move it on the not working player? The ATJ tool (in chinese!) says me "out of memory" if I try... I am sure that the extracted firmware would be 100% compatible with the broken player...

What about cloning the first on the second now that I formatted it with windows?

Thanks for Your super-appreciated help!!
:-)

TheGuardian , great that the player is now recognised by Windows again.

What firmware version is the other working player? Currently only v9.0.43 and below are supported by the extraction tools. The other player maybe using a higher version number.

You can try to use S1clone instead to clone the working player, and flash it into the player to be repaired. Guide is here http://www.stud.uni-karlsruhe.de/~uw...?Tools.s1clone

Good luck, hope you can get it working again.
