Default Help my MP4 cannot charge - S1 MP3 PLAYER

Help my MP4 cannot charge !

Hi all expert.
Needs some asistance here.

Just last week i got my 2 boys each a MP4 1GB from the Singapore COMEX Exhibition Show in Singapore.

The picture of the MP4 looks like this : (pic taken from the net)

Within the next 3 days my boys complaint that they are unable to charge them with the USB cable provided.
Disbelieved, i tried charging both the MP4 myself and failed too.

I am sure its not the battery as both MP4 are having the same problem.

Had called the vendor here but they refused to answer the phone (think i had been conned !)

The company website and details as follows :

Main Office And Service Centre
1 Rochor Canal, Sim Lim Square
#06-26, Singapore 188504
Tel : 65-63377451
Fax : 65-63377521
http://www.nasatechnics.com

Below some data i manage to get on these MP4.

S1 MP3 PLAYER
WILSON CO LTD
V9.0.43
-----------------------
CTW 500_S75
2006/10/10
9.0.48.02
2006/10/10

Any idea whether it could be the firmware issue ?
If it is, maybe a firmware update to solve the problem.
(Which firmware to use ? There seems plenty listed in this forum.)

Thanks in adavnce for the guide and patience in direction.

Desperate parent.

tanwill,

It wouldn't be the firmware that is causing the player not to be charged from past experience.

It could either be the USB cable that's faulty, the USB connection point on your player, the pins on the chipboard on the player, or perhaps the batteries hasn't been soldered on correctly to have it charged.

Some things to try:
=============
1. Can you find another USB cable and try it?
2. Also, does your player come with a wall charger? If so, try that also.
3. Try also charging it through another USB port and make sure it's not plugged into any USB hubs. It's best to plug the USB cable directly into the USB port on your computer and not running off a USB hub.

Try those and let us know how it goes.

Hi thanks for the reply.

Yes, i had tried charging on both ON and OFF mode. (Both unit of MP4)

In fact, i had tried charging using both computer <via> and also the charger adaptor.
None seems to work.

-------------------------------------

On both the wall charger and computer (via the USB cable), it shows charging.

Whenever the backlight goes blank the green light disappear (wall charger).
On the computer, its shows charging, But it cannot hold charge.

Also had tried one of the method ; to play an MP3 or Radio during charging, didnt work also.

I am trying to knock at the door of the supplier tomorrow to see if they are there to help.

tanwill , does the players operate properly whilst they are connected to the computer via USB?

It's very weird, seems like some hardware problem. But chances of hardware problems on both players at the same time are quite low.

The charging screen is not reliable, what happens is that the player is programed to display the charging screen when both the Data+ and Data- pins are set to logic '0'. This is conveniently done by connecting both data pins to the Gnd terminals. So you'll see a charging screen the moment you plug the USB cable into the player and AC adaptor, without even turning on the wall socket.

It`s like an MP3 Player which plays Music CDs only.

Hi All,

Thanks very much for the response.

Had visited the vendor yesterday.
Complained so much and proofed to them on the issue.
They offered to trade-in for another type of MP4 (apparently with Rockchip inside) with a top-up of $60 .[2 x MP4 Plus $60 for 1 x Rockchip MP4]

In order to have less headache, i traded-in both current MP4 and top-up according for the RockChip MP4 unit. (Tested and so far so good).

Than went to Creative Technology and purchased another MP4.

Think its the best solution so far.

Really appreciate all you guys advise, pointer and response.

CHEERS.
