Default Need help finding drivers for MP4 player.

Have one of the MP4 players here that looks like an Ipod Nano. A kid got it for his birthday 6 months ago, and doesn't have a single thing on it!! (His parents don't have much of a computer at home....)

I told him I would fill it up with music, videos, ect. He sent it home with me, along with a SCRATCHED BEYOND USE driver CD. So I tryed it anyway, my stepdaughter also has a similar one, was hoping that the drivers would be the same and it would work. No good. My computer sees the Mp4 player, but when I click on it, I get a message that say: "Drive is not formatted, do you want to format it now?" And that's all I can get. Am I correct in assuming that without the correct drivers I won't ever get further than this?

Anyone know where to get the drivers for this thing? He lost his book also, so I have no idea where it came from.....(he's a 5th grader!)

The firmware in the Mp4 player says: BKSD91N12-10, does that help at all?

I would love to get it filled up for the kid, he's used it as a Radio for months since his birthday, and that's pretty sad.....Anyone help?

JR.S , you don't need any drivers for the player unless you are using Win95 or 98. Most XP and 2000 OS are just plug and play.

What i can suggest now is to format your player using Windows first, so that Windows recognises your player.

Plug in your player via USB, Right Click on My Computer and select Manage. In the list on the left hand side, Expand Storage and select Disk Management. Give it a few seconds to load and on the right hand side, you should be able to see all the drives including the player.

Select the player's drive, Right Click and select Format. You can select FAT and Default, then click on OK to format it. Give it a couple more seconds to format. See if now you can access the drive.

Ok, but will formatting it not erase his menus and everything else?

It's not going to totally erase everything on the MP4 player is it? If I can't get it going for him, I want to return it the way it was, menus intact with the ability to use the radio.

Thanks.

JR.S , the player's menu and functions are stored in the player's firmware. This firmware would not be removed with formatting. Unless you use some firmware tool to flash the player with an incompatible firmware.

I've formatted my nano clone using the above mentioned steps numerous times, and never once did I encounter any problems.

JR.S , good on ya.

Let me know if you want to convert video clips to put on the player. Certain versions of MP3 Utilities work best with certain screen sizes.

Lattesurf: Actually I already tried some video that had been converted with the software for my Step Daughter's MP4, and they worked perfectly on his also! It compresses it down to Advanced Video Media or someting like that.

So now his 1 gig MP4 has about 4 music videos, one Pink Panther cartoon, complete 'Night at the Museum' movie (takes up about half the memory!), and about 110 songs!

I drive his School Bus, and I'm going to give it to him today after School. I'm pretty sure he's not learning anything at school today, just counting the minutes I bring it to him!!

Thanks again.
