Button_CPU , what happens when you click on the error message? Does it prompt you to install a driver?

Also, likely your player has been hacked. There are currently no evidence of legit 8GB clones, and mostly are just hacked 1GB, 2GB, or even lesser memory chips. The formatting guide is here http://www.mympxplayer.org/how-to-re...ck-vt2400.html

Re: MP4/AMV/REC/FM Chinese ipod knockoff

Thanks for the fast reply!!

unfortunately it does not prompt me for a driver. I tried to use the automatic update driver feature where WinXP searches the web for the driver to no avail.

I also emailed the seller and he said no driver was needed and it works on his Win XP pro (I also have XP pro)

I was wondering if perhaps his WinXP pro was different? a Chinese ver?

Also, I am quite sure it's not a 8gb. When I bought it, I was hoping it was at least 1gb. I can't even format it yet because I can't even connect it to my PC.

Button_CPU , usually these players are just plug and play on XP.
Try using another USB cable, and also connecting your player to another USB port.
If you are using a USB hub, remove it and use a direct USB connection instead.

I tried it on every PC in my house and also on my laptop.

I just have the one usb cable but it seems to be a good solid connection.

Man this sux, I really don't want to send this thing back to hong kong :(

you may want to try this, do this when your player is connected to your computer:

If the screen says 'Connected' on your player, press menu to exit that screen.

Goto setup on your player, press menu, then go down to 'firmware upgrade', then press menu.

This might connect your player with your computer.

I'm having the exact same problem, complete with the USB malfuction-tray error displayed above.

There are pictures below, of what the player looks like, and what the screen looks like on the player both when I connect the USB cable, and after I go to 'Firmware Upgrade' while the player is connected.

I'm having trouble piecing together instructions as to what to do to this player in order to get it recognized..

It's supposed to be a 2GB "MP4/AMV/REC/FM" player..
From the firmware version screen on the player, it shows:

MP3 PLAYER
LSD_9101_11
2006-10-27
9.0.48
2005-01-09

Any help at all would be appreciated..I haven't had this working at all yet, out of the box. It was a random giveaway, but at least the flash storage would be useful.

Re: MP4/AMV/REC/FM Chinese ipod knockoff

Here an update.

I sent the item back to Hong Kong and the guy I bought if from could not get it to work either so he sent me a new one.

I got the new MP4 player and plugged it in. Seems to work so far except I haven't gotten too far.

When I plug it in, my antivirus says the autorun.inf located on the MP4 player is infected with Trojan.Win32.Agent.abt

I thought I'd see if you guy knew anything about that??

I don't want to mess with it to much until you guys get back to me.

Best Regards,
Mr Button.
