mp4 brand mp4 player
 

I am unsure of the make of my mp4 player and recently it started not letting me delete files or overwrite files and creating random files. I have tried to so a scan disk check on it but i get the message "windows cant perform this check while disk is in use" every time.

Its properties are:
Name: USB 2.0 (HS) Flash Disk USB Device
Manufacturer (standard disk drives)
File system FAT

It still just about works but changing the music on it is doddgy.
any help finding firmware for this (either the one on it now or something else that will work on the chipset would be greatly appreciated.

robgrafton , Never Ever change the firmware. That is the last thing you'll ever want to do, as you'll likely brick it by a wrong firmware flash. Have a look in the Dead Players section and you'll understand.

From your symptoms, it seems that it is a likely memory hack issue, and i'll suggest that you format your player with MP3 Utilities Disk Tools, the guide is here http://www.mympxplayer.org/how-to-re...ck-vt2400.html

You'll most likely end up with a lesser capacity, maybe 1GB or 2GB, or even lesser.

im using vista *wince*. and the disk util doesnt install properly and when installed does not recognise the mp4 player. although it finds the right drive letter (in my case E:\) and the right device name (MP4) but it will not let me do anything with the partition. is this problem due to vista?

I have ubuntu as well is there an mp3 player toolset for linux?

robgrafton , when Vista asks to install the driver for the player, direct the installation to the Windows\System 32\drivers folder. See if this is able to solve the problem.

The memory hack is not due to Vista, but a spoof that tricks all Windows based OS into thinking the capacity is larger.

Since you can't install MP3 Utilities to Vista, try formatting via Ubuntu instead. Try this guide here http://www.3till7.net/2007/04/19/how...our-pen-drive/
