Hacked 4gb Glacier clone :(

Hey guys,

Im new here so be kind 8)

I was looking around for some kind of mp4 player and then on ebay I saw this glacier clone, I won the auction and got it for $40aud with free postage.

It arrived in only 2 days to my door in Australia from Hongkong! that was pretty bloody quick!

So the auction said 4gb and I had even asked the seller if this player was truelly 4gb and he said yes.

So I did the remove memory hack thing and the mp4 player now displayed it's true size of only 961mb :(

I emailed the seller and explained to him what had happend and he was very polite and even said that he will now change supllier

But he will only offer me a partial refund of $15 :( Or if I send it back a full refund, but that's at my expense :(

I really love this player it's awesome and works great and even the movies are awesome but I just want 4gb or my money back :(

What do I do??

BTW here are some pics I took 8)

Hi Flyboi. Welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear your player is hacked. You can file a claim with eBay for the item not being as described.

But if you paid by credit card contact your credit card company. Tell them what happened and ask them if you can do a charge back. They may ask you to return the player. Tell them you contacted the seller and he wants you to pay for the return shipping even though you are the victim of the scam. Tell them about the hacked memory scam.

At this point they should start the charge back immediately without you having to return the player. Once a credit card company finds out your the victim of fraud they act very quickly on your behalf.

But if you didn't pay by credit card the only option you have is to file with eBay.

The selller on eBay offering you a partial refund, that is part of the scam.

There is a guide on eBay called The Hacked Memory Scam Guide. When I saw your message here I emailed the guy who wrote it, his name is Zeke, and I told him what happened to you and asked him if he would email you the guide for free to help you out. He said yes.

His email address is hackedmemoryscam@gmail.com and tell him your Flyboi from mympxplayer.org. He needs your email address to get the guide to you. In the guide is info about what you can do if you have a hacked player.

Let us know how things go and don't hesitate to post here on the forum. We are all here to help. And email Zeke for sure and get that guide. It will help you a lot.

40$ AUD is a pretty good deal, even for a 1GB player.

I'd say with A$15 refund you actually have a v good deal. (To be honest for the price you paid 4GB would be unbelievable as the flash chip itself would cost nearly that much). I have a very similar looking player & I like(d) it too but unfortunately it stopped working & I am searching for the right firmware or a clone of an identical player:-(.
YOu should try to do a backup anyway as there is a real possibility your player will "hang" or stop working in the future.
Is there any chance you could get an s1clone image of it? (This might help me revive my player) Go to s1clone.de & download tool from there, then after you have image upload to megaupload.com or similar & post link to this site. Also, please can you post the version of firmware it has, (in settings on player) & if it were to have a firmware file on the CD (v unlikely!), post that too.
What (pixel) resolution did it claim the screen was?
This would be really appreciated.
Cheers

AUD$25 for a 1GB is really a sweet deal! Considering a 1GB chip costs about US$7 each, i'll say $25 would be a very reasonable price.

Since you've already opened the dispute, now it is upto Paypal to decide. i'll suggest that if you decide to take up the $15 refund offer, do contact paypal via the dispute console and inform them that you have thought about it and accept the $15 refund.

Else, if they should decide that you send the player back (at your own cost) for a full refund, there goes the $15 refund offer.

I too would agree that taking the $15 refund is a good deal.

The way I see it is the seller KNOWS for sure he's selling hacked players. Hence why he offered to give you the refund so quickly. For him, he's selling an advertised 4GB for an incredibly low price so hooking buyers in left, right and centre. Without you formatting your player, you wouldn't have known it was hacked. For some (if not most), they probably won't fill up 4GB straight away, so probably won't be aware of the hack until it's too late for a refund or dispute. Either way, he's got the sale, got the profit and for the few that ask for refund, it's no big lost to him.

I personally think you should get the refund. Wait for it to come into your account, then post NEGATIVE feedback about the memory hack to warn others. Also, mention this site and that you will list him as a bad seller.

Can you send me details of the sellers eBay ID so we can warn others now?

Hey there,

I just recieved the exact same player as you. Did you buy it from the seller 'rapidtrade' by any chance?

I just emailed the seller today. Im asking for 3/4 back of the price since i got 1GB instead of 4GB. Unlikely to happen, but a $15 refund sounds good if I could get that.

Winslade, Flyboi

Appreciate its not on main topic, but it would be REALLY helpful if you could take s1clone image & upload it - visually this player looks exact same as my semi-dead one.

Go to www.s1clone.de & download tool from there, then after you have image upload to megaupload.com or similar & post link to this site. Also, please can you post the version of firmware it has, (in settings on player) & if it were to have a firmware file on the CD (v unlikely!), post that too.
