In fact... there is no such switch, I've opened lots of time my player and I know it isn't a physical switch it's an electrical one... it's just the "HP_SENSE I Sense of jack insertion" which said Knob that is not working.

It can be solved by an expert electrician or... IMHO provider have to replace the malfunctioning player (Intimus Magnus thingy)

Compatible Onda VX858 modded by someone, available to download in Onda BBS. I have its original firmware picked from Onda site.
Screen is 2.8"
I haven't found corresponding *.lst file yet to modify it.
This Rockchip player have a Wolfson audio decoder, which brings the best sound I've heard in an MP4.
@ DaremoS: Can you tell whether your player above is the same as the on I got recently?

i.e. will it take ONDA firmware as I can't figure out what firmware to use to change the them - in particular the start-up and closing screens as they look tacky as anything. I don't want to screw this up though as I want to take the player with me snowboarding in the new year.

snowfruit, your player is an unbranded Onda, and it should be able to take Onda firmware.

Thanks for that.
Can you tell me what firmware version I should start with if my player identifies itself as Ver: 00.00.0000 Date: 2207-10-30 ?

snowfruit
I would advise you to wait before you try to "upgrade" to firmware. Member"dancemammal" is working on a firmware extractor for Rockchip players like the VX858.
He could be ready quite soon, then you could back up your firmware (which you know works) and theme that instead, maybe better to wait a little than risk bricking your player!

I have the same player and i have tried over 30 firmwares for it.. nothing realy works on it,

I have tried all the Onda firmware i can find. im not worried about bricking it since i know how to recover from a bad flash, dead unit white screen whatever we call it..

but I would like a firmware for this unit too,. one that works goods.. anyone able to help.. I would a firmware extractor for it.. as I have an identical unit that has proper firmware and working..

I would be able to extract it and put it on the none working unit..

there are no extractors at all for the older rockchip player

recovery is of course possible, but you do need the original firmware

if you are willing to experiment you may be lucky and find one that works, but you may also be unlucky in that you may never find a compatable firmware to rvover with

the choice is yours

there is no real way to determine what your players firmware is, the mass prodution and lack of any care what so ever with these models has caused a massive mess with neither factories nor many sellers caring one bit about the after sales of these players
