Default Bought 4 different Rockchip players- none come with F/Ware!

Hi,

Not that I'm into modding, messing around with firmware etc etc but something's just occurred to me. Over the last 4 months, I have bought 4 Rockchip players, from 4 different outlets (before the obvious questions are asked 'why 4?', I am only keeping 1 for myself! )

None have any firmware on their CD's  . Is this normal? They are all unbranded, so that could be why ( I realise Teclast offer f/w updates).
So even if I wanted to reload the original firmware back in, I wouldn't be able to !

iixorbiusii , pretty much yeah. Usually unbranded players do not come with any firmware in it, you'll be lucky if it did. But then again, it would be a risk to take if you wanna theme and flash it in, considering it might not be compatible anyway. Kinda ironic since they actually provide the consumerupdate software in the cds to flash firmwares in.

Teclast & Meizu offers firmware updates, but upto a period of time i guess.

iixorbiusii...

I don't want to give lessons to anybody here... let's said that I had lots of luck with my latest players...

First was M3 Music card from Meizu that have regularly new versions of firmware and enough tools for modding them.

Then was unbranded Teclast C260, in which I successfully installed legal Teclast firmware.
Teclast is releasing update of firmware in a regular way, and is available to be downloaded from their site. In this player I've installed many different FW completely skinned by others.

Few days ago was unbranded Onda VX858, in which I successfully installed legal Onda firmware.
Onda the same as Teclast is releasing update of firmware too, and is available to be downloaded from their site. This player is wearing a skin picked from Onda BBS.

To have this luck it's necessary to look for compatible players... to make some benchmark before buy.

This two rockchip devices (Teclast and Onda) are perfect for skinning: RKLogoEdit is a tool developed for modify the firmware in a secure way.
Having the backup Rockchip are extremely reliable for skinning and there is no need of a software to extract it.

I didn't get firmware with my Rockchip player either... I just hope it doesn't die on me so that I would need to reload it...

Thanks DaremoS - some good recommendations from you for people who want to mod their Rockchips. If possible, can you post photos of your players, to help identify unbranded Teclast and Onda players??? I might become interested in experimentation using one of those players as 'emergency' firmware exists for them [btw I think Buzzygirls problem with the speaker always on was solved, by pressing the REC button for a few secs..?]

Even if you get a supplied CD with firmware there is no guarantee it's gonna work. If you have a look round this site there have been many instances where the supplied CD had the WRONG firmware on it.

I still think software to extract YOUR own working firmware would be the best and safest solution, only problem is that it doesn't exist yet.

(Solution posted to Buzzygirl is not a solution indeed... it's just a short cut, this player disconnect speakers when one of two earphones are plugged).

actually no because on players with 2 earphone sockets you have to use the rec key. think about it. how can they make a mechanical switch which works with both sockets?
if you needed the mechanical switch why would the rec key work?

On page 7 of the Rock Datasheet you can see that there is a special pin for
sensing the insertion of the jack plug, which means that it can be all controlled by firmware instructions to the Rockchip itself, so no need for any mechanical switches.

it's pin number 81 "HP_SENSE I Sense of jack insertion"

Problems in this area could mean an incorrect or corrupt firmware has been installed.
