Default 4gb Faux-pod MP4 Player - Files Corrupt Consistently

Hi,

Not exactly sure what model mine is, since nothing described it as such on the box, but it looks like a fake iPod Nano, MP4 support, 4gb, and most likely a 1.5" screen.

Anyway, each time I copy files over to the player (after a quick format first as directed in the quick start guide) it appears to have copied everything over, but this is not true. When I load her up, it normally only has one folder (out of the four) with about half the amount of songs and the songs that are on there ( a few work) but the ones that don't say "Format error!"

Any ideas on what I may need to do. I had contemplated the idea of getting new firmware, but not sure what exactly is the correct firmware for my faux-pod.

Many thanks in advance!

glj123,

You will have to a full format as described here: How To: Removing Memory Hack.

"Format error" messages are a classic case of a memory hack or corruption in the memory chip. Following the guide should help resolve this. Let us know of the result.

I'll be sure to post my results. But the more and more I thought about it, and a bit-o-researching... I discovered that I can have no more than 99 files within a given folder? Meh... that's kind of annoying. That may be the reason why it spazzed out and became annoyed with me.

While on that whole topic, there isn't a way to get the shuffle to cross folder shuffle, is there? That almost defeats the whole purpose of shuffle otherwise. Has anyone mod'd the firmware or what have you to change this?

Just thought I'd mention it while I attempt to transfer files over.

Thanks for the suggestion by the by!

Yup, hacked memory. When using those tools, it is only 962mb.

This blows.

By the by, it was hailitele.

glj123 , hailitele is a known scammer on ebay. So now it is upto you to decide if you want to do a full refund or partial refund. i'll probably go with the partial refund if the offer is good.

For your previous post, yes most players only supports upto 99 files per folder. Though some others have reported that they could store more than 99 in the root folder. Shuffling or Random playback is only possible within the folder itself.

Do not perform any firmware updates, that is the last thing to do. You'll stand a higher chance of bricking it than fixing it.

Thanks for the reply.

This guy is a (for the lack of a better term) a real douche.

Here's what he wrote:

" Hi, thanks for your inquiry. The "Capacity" part is clearly stated in the item description, the 4GB is for acting as a 4GB USB flash drive for storing data files only, and the actual playable and recordable capacity is 1GB.
It can hold 4GB of songs as data, but among them, only the songs locate in the first giga byte of the memory section are playable, thanks.
You can download the AMV Convert Tool, PDF version of the user¡¦s manual, and get further online technical support from http://home.netvigator.com/~hintlam or http://www.mympxplayer.org, the CD is not included because its software is outdated already, thanks for your understanding."

Funny thing is... it does not mention ANYWHERE on the page about that, so if he does not comply to my demands, I will take it up with PayPal and eBay. I won't give up easily, heh.

So far he has steered completely away from the idea of a refund. I will do what I can, and make this guy pay. Wish me luck!

Tell paypal and him that even the "remaining 3GB" of non-mp3 data-storage space does not work. How is it even possible to store an extra 3GB of non-mp3 data when the chip is only 1GB? It just does not make sense.

If let's just say, I get absolutely no where with this, and fail miserably, I had an idea/question.

I am really into hardware modding, and always enjoy exploring new realms, in this case, MP4 players... Since I will be stuck with a 1gb MP4 player, what does it use in terms of memory? A card or what? Could I possibly replace the given memory with the appropriate type? I'm not entirely sure how these work to begin with, any direction to point me in if the inevitable occurs later on with this worthless helitele guy?

I always enjoy projects.

YES!
i've been having the same problem too. same seller, but different mp4

i think i just got scammed. videos on my player work fine, but the player is constantly corrupted and files do not transfer properly.

what did you ask hailitele? i want to fight him for a refund as well. this player does not work the way i thought it was supposed to. i transfer files to it, and then they get corrupted. i re-formatted the thing about 5 times, and it's all the same.
if you know how to fix this problem, please help me. thanks.
