What does the clock/time on the player do?

There is a "system time" function on my player, but I don't know what it is for. :?
I know it does not keep track of time, because when I turn it off, the function also turns off.
I know in a thread about "getting your player to stop sleeping" it was stated that the "system time" function is important. HOW DO I KNOW?

Could someone please tell me what this function does?

It is basically there just to provide a time\date tag to files when using the Record function.

George Samuel , also the time/date function is nonsense. If you notice, the time would gradually get out of sync after about a day or two.

If you want to keep the time/date running, you could only turn off the player using the Play button, rather than using the On/Off switch. As the On/Off switch would cut off the battery power and reset the time/date when you next switch it on.
