MP4 shows black screen with hourglass

http://www.dein-onlineshop.eu/images/ac6b_3.JPG

My nameless MP4 player as above and 4G capacity, with "Samsung chip" and "Anyka" definition document on a cd-rom, workt properly untill I try'd to put him off, the screen displayd very quick something like "error data.." and after that nothing more then a black screen with a hourglass within.

Turning off and on does not help, putting out the battery (for 2 days) does not help even so, when turning on only the black screen with hourglass appears.

My computer say's: "found a new USB device" but can't view or install it because of an undefinable reason?? he did not had any problems earlier.
I use Windows XP Home.

Can somebody help me with this probably simple problem?

Tanks a lot!!!

Re: MP4 shows black screen with hourglass

Hi;

Well, I have the same problem since yesterday.

It appeared as I was having a meeting and needed some more space on my mp4-Player. Therefore I wanted to delete all songs. But the "delete" procedure took me too long and I decided to turn the player off while deleting after 20 minutes.
after turning him on, I got (still have) black screen with hourglass.

Wanting to make a format using my computer, I had to discover that my mp4 player cannot be recognised anymore.

Has anyone maybe solved this problem yet, and how ? I would appreciate any help or ideas.

Thank you very much

Best regards
Jim

P.s. I have got the 8GB version

Hi;

I have opened the player and found this serial :

QY-066Av1
2007.03.20

My PC recognises that there is an USB Device; but I can't install the AdfuUpdate.inf :( located in my Windows folder, nor the one located in the download section.

Does anyone has an idea what would be a next step ?

Greetings

Jim

Re: MP4 shows black screen with hourglass

Helloa Alanm;

Well, I haven't had any reply actually.

I think that the basic solution will be to get any working firmware onto the player.
But the first problem to be solved, is to get you player recognised as a "ADFU Device" by Windows.
In fact, as I alread mentioned, windows detects an unknown USB Device, but cant't get any information out of the AdfuUpdate.inf file located in */Windows/ for our kind of player.
So as long as we have no possibility to get any dataflow working between the payer itself and windows, I guess, we are stuck onto a dead player showing up an hourglass for ages :roll:

What have you already been trying onto your player ?

MP4 shows black screen with hourglass

Please note, that shortcutting the capacitor's won't be the solution, as it turns off for a second and comes back to the black screen with the hourglass again.
The player himself is not "dead", he is just trying to read on memory endlessly.
For example; when you start you Glacier, he is trying to get back to the last position he has got when you shut him down (last song played for example).
But if in any case, this position has wanished, he will be searching it endlessly. (I turned the player off during deleting all my files because it took me too long :twisted: ).
So it only has to be set to factory settings again. Like the "reset" button on your PC 8)
But I haven't found any "reset" method yet...

alanm 10th Oct 2007 1:30 am

ive tried everything on the site jim with no sucess still looking for the adfu device driver tried everything i can think of maybe someone can come up with solution ????

lattesurf 11th Oct 2007 6:49 am

_Jim_ , i think your problem happened because of the memory hack initially present in your player. There isin't any real evidence of 8GB players except for branded chinese players. So likely yours could be a 1-2GB chip hacked to show 8GB.

When you performed a delete using the player, what happens is that the player would attempt to delete everything, maybe 3-4GB or more files depending on what "stored" in it. If your player only had a 1GB chip, the excess 2-3GB would be "overwritten" on the existing 1GB area including the firmware section.

So when you deleted the files, the "3-4GB" was deleted, with it corrupting the firmware, or perhaps even deleting it.

Jim

Succes!!

MP4 shows black screen with hourglass - AdfuUpdate.inf

Hi Alanm;

Thank you for your adfuUpdate.inf
I don't know the version of your mp4 player, but your adfuUpdate.inf didn't work. So I identifyed my mp4 player with my Linux Workstation, and changed so my AdfuUpdate.inf file in order to recognize my MP4 Player:

QY-066Av1
2007.03.20

So If any of you has this player, you have to change your AdfuUpdate.inf located in your /Windows/ folder to this :

[hr:048519a478]

[Version]
Signature="$CHICAGO$"
Class=USB
;ClassGUID=1181f4a0-f284-11d2-9068-00609797ea5a}

To use this file propperly, you have to plug-in your player to USB :) and wait for Windows to ask for drivers.
There you have to get your software drivers FROM A LIST !
Next, DONT let Windows search for drivers, but select your driver yourself
Take "all devices"
"Have Disk"
and select your new edited AdfuUpdate.inf in Windows Folder

Et voilą 8)

Now, we have our ADFU Device in Windows, but we cannot read nor write on it.
Now, Get to your mp3 Utility, and chose firmware upgrade tool, open your firmware file, and start upgrading.

@Lattesurf :

Yes, you are right with the memory hack. that's why he is trying to delete or read on non existing memory :roll:

But, can I change the memory hack to normal, while my player is still an ADFU device ?

@ vtr

euh;... thank you, but I only speak Luxemburgish, German, French and English, so I can't unserstand you :?

I hope, my post helped some of you; and if someone finds a firmware for this player : QY-066Av1 2007.03.20 ; could you please upload it to the download section and make me a wink ;)

That would be great, I haven't found any working firmware until now :oops:

Best regards
Jim

lattesurf 12th Oct 2007 9:24 pm

_Jim_ , usually when a player goes through the ADFU stage, and flashing of firmwares, the hack would be removed.

Lattesurf;

Thank you for you reply. That was what I was hoping for.

I think the "hourglass" problem has finaly been solved by editing the adfuUpdate.inf file.

Thank you for all your ideas and comments; and an sepcial thank to the Forum Team spending hours and hours keeping this forum alive.

If I find any working firmware for my player. I will post a link :)

Regards
Jim

hourglass solved - MP4 without PID now

Grrrmmppffff

Having fun with the hourglass topic, I solved to get to the point to update the firmware. After upfating a firmware in Russian, I got this one :
http://www.mympxplayer.org/full-firm...n01-df634.html

Which really killed my player now !! :x

By connecting or turning it on, it blinks, and that's all.

Windows recognizes an unknown USB device :

USB\VID_0000&PID_0000\5&39669908&0&4

Anyway, how would it be possible to get it back to ADFU ? If PID is 0000 ??

I think, THIS is really messy :evil:

Re: MP4 shows black screen with hourglass

Hi,
I got a hacked "4GB GEN3" mp4 player from hailetele on ebay. It looks just like the one on the top of this page but it is silver. After getting black screen with hourglass I attempted to update the firmware using mp3player utilities V4.05 upgrade tool. After I did this things got worse. The player would turn on with blank screen switched off and would show up "new usb device" when plugged in but could not be recognised by windows and the upgrade tool would not find it!
With a bit of help from the users on this page I finally managed to get Windows to recognise it.
What I did was this:
Copied a new AdfuUpdate.inf to my windows folder, This is it:

[Version]
Signature="$CHICAGO$"
Class=USB
ClassGUID={36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}

After copying this file I had to Right Click on file AdfuUpdate.inf and select install. After that I'd plug in the player and wait for windows to detect it, manual choose hardware - select from list - all devices - browse for file - windows\adfuupdate.inf.
After all this the upgrade tool would finally recognise the player again but unfortunately no firmware I have tried to date has managed to get this player working again.
ANYONE WHO CAN PLEASE HELP!!
I think I need a full firmware for this player.
It is a 1GB player that looks like the one at the top of this page and uses a nokia phone battery. Has a 2" screen, single speaker and mic. On the board inside is written: v4500-92v1.0 20070729
The memory chip is a hynix 8Gigabit flash ROM (1 gigabyte)
The main chip is a ATJ2092N
The small chip has an SPT logo and I think says SP3757AHN
If anyone knows where to find this firmware I would be Oh so very grateful and of course share my success/failure with everyone.

Sorry I tought you were a dutchman (flag) :)
I tried to give you a short explanation to install / update-grade the adfuUpdate.inf file, it's in the download section with an clear step by step explanation

vtr 14th Oct 2007 11:04 pm

Anyway, Windows detect my MP4 and I can copie files to it but I'm still trying to get the right firmware to get lost of that white screen on my MP4
In the meantime I tried many many firmware's with no succes :?

Maybe I do something wrong
Anyone a suggestion??

Re: MP4 shows black screen with hourglass

Hi VTR;

To get a working firmware onto your Glacier like player, you have to download the "Mp3 Player Utilities 4.05" and install it !

Second, download this firmware package of Glacier firmwares :

http://www.mympxplayer.org/full-firm...res-df652.html

Now, turn OFF your player, remove the battery and plug in your mp4 to USB and wait 30 seconds until it is fully recognized by Windows.
Then open the new installed "Mp3 Player Upgrade Tool" and select the Firmware you wish to install.
Mine was one of the 9.0.50.x ones. You would start with the 9.0.50.8 and then 9.0.50.7 and so on, until you have a result.

A common mistake made by a lot of users, is to not be patient. Because, after flashing, the program says "Done, will exit". from now on, you have to wait for about 1-2 minutes. Then you unplug him, insert the battery and turn him on.
From now on, you have to wait also. first of all, you will be having a loong hourglass showing up for 1 or 2 minutes. This is then a good sign, he will boot for the first time, and after a minute or two, you can use him as normal.

Just one thing, my speaker was not working with non of these firmwares ! but if you don't really need the speaker, don't try other firmwares, becauase, I killed mine with another 9.0.50.x firmare !!

There is one, where the speaker worked, but it was in Russian or Turk. Therefor I was flashing any firmware named 9.0.50.x in the firmware section, and puff, killed :(

My VID and PID are now set to 0000 so windows detects my player as an "unknown device" : USB\VID_0000&PID_0000\5&39669908&0&4
I do not know how to correct the AdfuUpdate.inf in order to work with this information :(

Maybe you could help me too ?

Best Regards
Jim

vtr 15th Oct 2007 5:47 am

okay thanks, can you tell me were I can find this "Mp3 Player Utilities 4.05" ??

Maybe you can email it towards me ?
mymp4player@fiberworld.nl

_Jim_ 15th Oct 2007 8:41 am

Here you have some tools and even firmware for Glacier like players.

Choose your (real) Flash size and then you get the tools you need.

http://www.uxcell.com/products_servi...v0blk2048mp039

Good luck

vtr 15th Oct 2007 10:05 pm

Try to follow the "dead player recovery guide" in the top of this rubric CAREFULLY and be patient (the common mistake :) ) It did work with mine, install a new AdfuUpdate.inf file from the download section of this site, save this file somewhere on your harddisk and navigate Windows towards it when its asking for it, after this your MP4 should be recognized by Windows, SUCCES!

Re: MP4 shows black screen with hourglass

Hi, I am new here and I have problem with chinese crap like everyone on this forum. My mp4 player looks exactly like on 1st page. I bought my "glacier" on ebay and it stopped working same day when i received it. My piece of crap has on the board same symbols like user's player 'moneytothemax'. There is:

v4500-92v1.0 20070729
The memory chip is a memorex 8GB? (29F8G08MAA)
The main chip is a ATJ2092N.

I tried all firmwares "Thirteen_Glacier-like_Firmwares_www.mympxplayer.org" and "fimware_mp039_glacier" from http://www.uxcell.com/products_servi...v0blk2048mp039 (9.0.43_1 - 9.1.51). Any idea? If anyone has same which works properly, please make backup and send me :(

Hi,

Get the latest software here for your player, and don't forget to install the Upgrade Tool 4.05 !

http://www.uxcell.com/products_servi...v0blk2048mp039

Give it a try

Jim

vtr 17th Oct 2007 11:00 pm

I tried all the firmware on that site you mentioned, with no luck.
The screen still stays white :(

Re: MP4 shows black screen with hourglass

Hi,

I have had the same problem, and solved it by installing the upgrade utility tool 4.05 which I found in this download section.

You can also download the "Glacier" firmware package you can find in the download section. BUT don't upgrade any other firmware you find, because I killed mine so. (with the rocky firmware).

give it a try

and tell me what happens after you upgraded the firmware, what tells the programm, what does your player after, and so on, to focus on the problem.

Re: MP4 shows black screen with hourglass

Thanks very much Jim for your reference to uxcell.com and your advice on updating firmware.
My player looks just like the ones on that website and came from ebay seller hailitele who had the nerve to try and get me to retract my neutral feedback!!! Yeah right.

Unfortunately none of the firmware from uxcell.com or mympxplayer.org would get my glacier-like player to work again.
My player will install as an adfu device but won't even show up as a usb flash disk when I connect it to my WinXP Pro computer, even after trying thirteen glacier firmwares and the one from uxcell.com. I'm pretty sure the thing is well and truly KAPUT(dead).

I will still play around with it on occasion though, as new solutions present themselves :) and will continue to share my experience.

[solved] MP4 shows black screen with hourglass

Moien MoneyToTheMax

Let's resume your problem;

you have a silver Glacier like player with real 1GB memory.
you are able to connect him as an ADFU device
your Upgrade Tool recognizes your player
you can upgrade your player with the glacier firmwares without an error message from the upgrade Program 4.05

Am I right ?

So, I think we are good on the ADFU Problem most users have right at the beginning. (you could maybe tell me your PID number -> see my topic on ADFU driver)
If the program says something like "upgrade done, program will now exit", so that sould be a good sign...
It always worked for me, and I flashed mine several times.
Let's resume the flashing procedure :
Turn your player OFF (with the button on top). Then take out the battery and plug him in.
He will get into ADFU
Then open your upgrade tool and select this firmware :
http://www.uxcell.com/tech-support-d...39_glacier.zip
This one should be for a 1GB silver player
Select the version 3 and upgrade
Now, after the program exit's, as your player is OFF and no battery, he can't turn on by himself, so unplug him, insert the battery and turn him on.
now after 2 seconds you should see the hourglass again, and then you have to wait for 1-2 minutes ! The system has to boot up with this new firmware.
so, now tell me how you are doing, and where exactly we have the first problem, so that we can work together.
(It is a little bit difficult, repairing something without having it in my hands :roll: )

See you later
Jim

Re: MP4 shows black screen with hourglass

Hi Jim.
PID is FF66
I take out the battery and connect player to computer VIA usb.
Switch player on and computer detects ADFU device but NO hourglass on screen, screen is blank.
I open upgrade program 4.05 and it reads as follows:
"It is in recover state, and select the firmware file for recovering please!"
followed by a file selection box.
Next I select the firmware Version 3.
I click on "Recover Firmware". The screen lights up, the program goes through upgrade process and reads: "Upgrade is success, the program will exit!" I click OK and the program closes down. The player remains with screen lit up until I switch it off. The screen will not turn off on its own even after a half hour or so.
When I turn the player back on with the battery inside and usb unplugged, the screen stays black, no hourglass, even if I leave it for ten minutes switched on.
I switch it off, take out the battery.
When I plug it back in all I get is windows recognise adfu device again and that's all.
Then I open up update program and it reads
"It is in recover state, and select the firmware file for recovering please!" all over again.
It does this with each glacier firmware I've tried so far. The only difference with some firmwares is that, when I turn the player on after flashing, the screen will light up black/blank when I put the battery in and turn on.

Re: MP4 shows black screen with hourglass

PID is FF66
OK, your adfuUpdate.inf is correkt, one problem solved

I take out the battery and connect player to computer VIA usb.
Switch player on and computer detects ADFU device but NO hourglass on screen, screen is blank.

Why do you have to switch player on ?? Player has to stay with the Button turned OFF until upgrade has been done (I always had the best results doing so).
It is normal that there is no hourglass now, because your firmware is still corrup
:)

Perfekt

The player remains with screen lit up until I switch it off. The screen will not turn off on its own even after a half hour or so.
That's because the player wasn't OFF during upgrade prozess !

When I turn the player back on with the battery inside and usb unplugged, the screen stays black, no hourglass, even if I leave it for ten minutes switched on.
Hmm, not so good. Normally, inserting the battery and turning him ON with the upside Button, should show the hourglass in about 1-3 seconds, and then the player comes alive in about 1-2 minutes after the hourglass

Could you please give it a try with the player switched OFF with the upside button :)
I am working right now on an memory reset topic, witch brought back my player a week ago from the dead :) But first, try with the player turned completely OFF (Not the play/pause OFF method, but with the Upside Button)

Jim

If I plug the player in while it is switched off, the computer won't recognise it at all.
If it did, I would have tried your way.
That's what leads me to believe thats it's really broken.

@ MoneyToTheMax

Hmm :roll:

strange that your player isn't switching on while you plug him in...
so he isn't getting any energy from the USb cable ?!

Well, I have one option left you could try, I have been working on this topic for some days and finished it yesterday.

:arrow: http://www.mympxplayer.org/viewtopic.php?p=39883#39883

But,... it can't work, if you are not getting any energy through USB. because, this has to be done without battery.

Well, as you have had any result until now, and your player still stays dead, I would try if I were you. In any case, it brought my player from the dead.

Has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility
With Windows XP. (Tell me why testing is important.)

This hardware will not be installed. Contact your system

Would it make a difference if you are connected on USB 1.0 instead of 2.0 when attempting a firmware recovery?

xianoa 9th Oct 2008 3:49 pm

yeah, well i tried youre updated version of teh adfuupdate.inf but neither that or the original would work. windows states that "this specific location does not hold information regarding your device" or something like that

im very disappointed that this mp4 player died on me in less than 24 hours

Thank you for you reply. That was what I was hoping for.

I think the "hourglass" problem has finaly been solved by editing the adfuUpdate.inf file.

Thank you for all your ideas and comments; and an sepcial thank to the Forum Team spending hours and hours keeping this forum alive.

If I find any working firmware for my player. I will post a link :)

Jim

Hi, I have the same problem with an apple ipod 3rd generation clone.
It starts up & sticks on the hourglass. My computer doesn't pick it up when I plug it in so I'm lost as to fixing it..

I have a few here so I checked the info on 1 of the working ones.
Manufacturer: Wilson Co. Ltd
Name: S1 MP3 Player
Firmware version: 9.1.52

It's suppose to be an 8GB..I did the "remove memory hack" process which was provided on this site & it came back as having 4 GB of memory. Not bad, for a clone..but I'm still stuck with about 8 of these that give me the hourglass.. nothing else..

Any help would be greatly appreciated...I'm a baby when it comes to this stuff..so your going to have to spoon feed me a little..LOL

Thanks
Ftanl

Hi Alanm;

@Lattesurf :

Jim

Hi Jim, All of that looks very useful..but how do I change the AdfuUpdate.inf ???? Where do I go? What do I change?

I've spent days at this!! I've finally found the right Firmware & loader tool, but my PC still doesn't recogonize the MP3 ...Please tell me how to edit or change it to AdfuUpdate.inf mode..

Thanks

Thanks
