The user manuals are not very helpful but there are different ones available in the downloads section -

At least most of these manuals are in .pdf format so you can read them on your pc and increase the size of the text.

The basics - connect the MP4 Player to your computer via the USB cable, a window should pop up giving you options, select the folder option that allows you to view the contents of your player.

To put music onto the player just drag or copy it to the same location as the exising music, in the music folder.

You can drag photo's onto the player in the same way but into the picture folder ( once you get used to it, you can reduce the size of the pictures so that they load quicker onto the screen)

Video is loaded in the same way again but you will need to convert them to the format your player accepts.

Install the software from your mini disc, it will probably be an AMV Converter which is straight forward and if not you will find lots of how to guides on this forum, just search or post back if you get stuck.

If I knew what player you had (details and photo) I could probably be more helpful.

Thanks Douglas for your quick response, I thought I was buying from Australia until parcel arrived posted from Hong Kong (I was not very happy because I bought 2 previously and could not get them to work and I had promised my granddaughters I would buy the players for their birthdays and I could not disappoint them 8 and 5 year olds)
Packaged in black box looks like an iPod says it is an MP4 Player (video..music..picture) the box says SY-258 1gb
I have not tried your suggestion yet thought I would get back to you right away to let you know what I got.
Thanks again

Hi Gloria, I know the MP4 Player you are talking about, I have three of them sitting in front of me!

My 10 year old son uses one of them and he figured it out almost straight away, they are pretty good and it doesn't matter if the kids press the wrong buttons as in my experience, they just switch back to the main menu.

The main complaints are with the firmware but that it usually the owners fault for trying to upgrade.

Right then...

switching on/off is simple enough with the small on/off switch, followed by an hour glass, welcome screen then music.

Lets now switch it off - press the middle play button and hold for aprox. three seconds or until you see the closing screen.

Now switch it back on, press and hold the middle play button again, after aprox. four seconds the the welcome screen will appear and after that we are back into music.

Most of the time if not all the time, the kids will just use the play button to switch it on/off

MUSIC..

Click the 'menu' button, if you have any music files on the player then the first one will be loaded, simply hit the middle play button to listen.

Now press the menu button for two seconds and you will see the lyrics to the song (if the song has a lyric file) , if you are in the lyric screen then press the menu button again to return to the normal music screen.

VOLUME, press volume button and a screen pops up, left or right button to adjust.

PAUSE, press middle button , press again to play.

NEXT/PREVIOUS, press left or right button to go through the different music files loaded.

OTHER, pressing the menu button quickly lets you into the list of music options.

EXIT MUSIC, stop/pause the music using the middle button then press and hold the menu button for two seconds or until you are back to the main screen.

Now try pressing the left or right buttons to cycle through the different things you have on your player.

With your player switched on, connect the USB cable to the player (already connected to your computer)

You will see that your battery is showing charging and that the player is connected.

If you do not get a pop up widow giving you the option to browse your MP4 players drive then go to Windows Start menu and find/click 'My Computer', from the opened up window find one of the hard drive icons named 'removable disk', double click this and you will see all the folders on the players drive.

Start by copying a music file from your computer into the music folder, close your open browser windows, disconnect the player and enjoy listening to your music.

Well. I could go on and on explaining all the functions but I need to know if any of this is helping you and if not then please let me know exactly which items you need help with.

Douglas

Hi Douglas, I have finally done it, I think.
Can you only listen to the music with the earphones, which I haven't tried yet, but my songs I downloaded are showing up in my music folder.
I don't know if you are able to help with this one, the battery gets low very quickly, am I able to get a larger battery which hold the charge much longer, any suggestions would be appreciated.
Sorry for being such a pest, you have been fabulous so far, I thought if you new, you wouldn't mind helping again
Thanks
Gloria

gloriaharvey , what do you mean by listening with teh earphones? Do also you mean that your player have a speaker?

For the battery problem, try setting the screen to auto off after a few seconds. Go to the Sys Tools/Settings menu, then select LCD Set. Then go to both Darkle and Black, and select perhaps 5 or 10 seconds, depending on your preference.

Now the screen should turn off after a few seconds of idle whilst music playback. This should greatly save alot of battery power.

It`s like an MP3 Player which plays Music CDs only.
