Default Rockhip mp4 player update help needed

ok, so i have a 1GB Rockchip MP4 player. I know it's a Rockchip player cuz on the manual it says so and plus the firmware update tool also says Rockchip somewhere i forgot but i'm pretty sure it's a Rockchip firmware, also i remember asking this be4 and somebody did confirm for me it's a Rockchip player.

Somebody also told me that it's not good updating the firmware but i forgot the reasons, however this time i wanna update it and i don't care, you can still explain to me the reasons why it's bad but i still wanna try updating it. Reason being is that i got a new fone that is better than my mp4, a Sony Ericsson W950i actually and it basically takes out my mp4 player so i don't care if i break it, i just wanna update it and if it works i'll be happy cuz after all it makes sense to me that updating something, especially softwares or firmwares, will make it better, so i'm willing to risk it.

the version of the current firmware i have rite now is:

00.00.0004
Date: 2006-11-14

and here are some pictures of my mp4 player:

so yea, i need the newest firmware and program for updating the firmware, also i need a program that can restore the firmware or backup the firmware and a program that can fixed dead players in case i screwed up, not that it matters much since i have a new fone but i might still need it in future.

and btw, i did search at the download sections but i'm not sure which one to use, some are for different RockChip players and i'm not too sure exactly what mine is so i'll just leave u PROs to find out for me, thanks.

just to make my questions more easier for u guys to solve, i'll list them like this:

1. newest firmare required
2. newest firmware updating tool required
3. newest tool to restore/backup firmware required
4. tool to fixed dead players

oh and plz give me instructions and a noob guide in case i don't understand wat to do, thanks. If possible, please give me some suggestions for tweaks or mods that i could use for my mp4 player, maybe like add extra games in it or a visualization while playing music.

here we go
first the lecture

there is a 99.9% chance to destroy the player

lecture over

to review your points

1. newest firmare required - there is none
2. newest firmware updating tool required
3. newest tool to restore/backup firmware required there is none yet
4. tool to fixed dead players there is none (ish)

basically you have a no-brand mp4 player using random firmware - you can not extract ths firmware for restore later.

there is no new update that will do anything to your player at all, so basically no ne features to be gained

if you had a branded player like onda, teclast etc then firmwares are actively updated to add new features - but not on no-branded ones.

the best you could do is to try firmwares suitable for 2.0" screens in the download section and maybe you will be lucky - but they wi=ont give anty new features - in fact some of them may remove the games section or the radio.

the best you can do if you have success with one of the firmwares is you may be able to change the look by skinning the players images.

so you need

1. firmware from here - but select ones for 2" screen only!!!
rockchip firmwares

2. consumer update - various versions some work, some not, just try and see.
try this one for starters

3. rklogoedit - for updating and skinning the images
rklogoedit

4. checksum fix tool for when you have used rklogoedit and saved the file
checksum tool

5. read articles by member knob - rockchip GURU - the best
knob - rockchip guru

useful bits
dead player recovery guide

this is all for now - any problems you have or things you need to know regarding any of the tools etc above have been posted, so search and ye shall find

in short, you may lose features but WILL NOT gain any
good chance to fry the player for good
skinning the player is about all you can do (which is fun), providing you find a working firmware

have fun

If this player, which is identical to my LDX LD-696, is working, you better don't touch it if you don't have corresponding firmware.

This player which is of 2.2" screen have been used by lots of manufacturers to mount lots of different configurations, which my vary small details enough to bring you a wonderful Blank screens as it in my player (faithful dog).

I have had it with blank screen for months trying every possible firmware to make it return to light... not succeeding yet.

Your firmware version is rather old
00.00.0004
Date: 2006-11-14
I've seen new version of it dated 2007-06, which make more difficult to find proper firmware.

Just an example somebody here saves the same player with Walker firmware, downloadable here, I just can't with the same firmware.
Anyway if you still want to try and take the risk of spoil your device... in this site is the latest version of Firmware Update for rockchip and a couple of firmware that fits your device.
I do have a original firmware for this player too. I can upload it..

Let us know what you decide to do... we always want to know of people who take risks.

the player you have is a no-brand player,

the advantage: cheap

the disadvantage: no support

these players are made in their thousands by hundreds of factories, they are made for quick sale only and they dont expect people to keep them for long

there are a few branded players from china that may use the same rockchip as yours, and many of these companies do provide firmware updates to enhance the players functionalities and fix bugs, but you pay more for these devices.

firmware is very hardware specific and is tweaked by the factories to suit the components they use, button layout etc so this means that firmwares are not compatible across the board, regardless if the chip is the same or the version number looks the same.

so in short, yes firmware updates can be good, but ONLY if you have a branded and supported player. But no-branded players do not have this luxuary and any firmware updating you do is at your own risk and if you look around this site you will find many people with "white screen" problems after upgrading

no-one is saying dont do it but just be aware that, even if you find a firmware with the same version number, there is no guarantee it will work

if you are not bothered about breaking the player then go for it, it si fun and eventually satisfying if you can get it to work and if you do the only thing you can then do is a little skin modification as there will be no new functionality

Hi chaoscreater,

I wouldn't try to upgrade it, unless you don't mind breaking it. I have this very same player. I take it for what it is... a standard, lower-end Rockchip player. I would like to be able to tweak it as well, but I have been warned repeatedly against doing so for the same reasons stated above.

hi guys, sry to bring out a dead/inactive topic but now i have a problem. My sister's mp4 which is exactly the same as the one i have, is now screwed. She had it in her school bag and her water bottle leaked and the water got inside, now when she tries to start the player, it works but 2 problems occur:

1. either she starts the player and sees the menu screen for maybe 3 seconds and the player shuts down automaticlaly itself.

2. it loads properly, plays the song properly etc but then the buttons will stop responding.

so now, i wanna try and flash it, maybe it's useless but it's screwed/dead anyway so i might as well try flashing it.

so ya i tried the sites above but i'm not EXACTLY sure which rockchip firmware i need..........

and since i'll be flashing it i might as well tweak it a little, just for experiment. I wanna know how to change the themes and add a few games to it, i forgot the answers ppl gave me.

also, am i able to change the games or something with this tool? I'm not quite sure wat it does.

http://www.mympxplayer.org/rockchip-...ing-df728.html

thanks, and don't worry if this won't work, it's dead anyway and my sister is getting a MP4 watch anyway.

If I was you, I would sit it in a hot water cupboard wrapped around a towel or something for say 3 days.

You need to open up the player and put it in a warm dry place for a day or so.

You need to get all the trapped moisture out of the player before trying to restart it again, this needs to be done now before the pcb gets chance to corrode.

While you got the player open take a note of the PCB number and Display number and post it back on this site if you want to find a firmware match or need to reflash it.

Post using the format:-

Control: RK2606
Plate(PCB)No: ????????
Screen No: ??????
