Looking for Firmware update for Veho 4gb mp4 player.
Hey all,
Today I got myself a Mp4 player from veho, Its a Vmp-009. One of the first things I decided to do was to update its firmware. According to the manual, I meant to do the following “Upgrade Player Driver 20 The player can upgrade or resume the damaged player driver via the tool software in the attached disk. 1. For the first upgrading of computer, insert the drive disk into the CD-ROM of computer, then connect the MP4 player with computer (it requires you to press and hold the MENU key), till it appears the program Installation Interface. 2. Implement the next step according to the Dialog box prompt, and select the “Upgrading Tool” folder in the attached disk in the “Browse” option of the fourth Dialog box, then click Confirm. 3. Operate as per the prompt in dialog box till the accomplishment 4.When the installation of programs required by computer is OK, you can begin the upgrading; select and run the firmware upgrading tool Consumer.exe (can be found in attached disk), then open the option and select Rock2*.rfw file (the Interface is as follows).” Only problem is when I go to the driver disk supplied, I find a filled called (TR)Consumer Update Firmware2.61.zip. After extracting it I cannot find any file ending with .rfw. The closest that I can find are files ending with .img. Ie “RockUpdateP_F.img”. Could someone please point me in the direction where I could get the firmware update for this device, I've been on the veho website but in simple word, its crap. Thanks |
hi and welcome
first off - does the players actually look like the ones in the pic on the web sites as it appears that it has a camera but no mention of it in anyones description? well, after looking on the web site and reading the manual i am disappointed in Veho i thought with them being a UK company they may haver made half an effort to produce some for of usable manual, but all i see is another bad translated and useless chinese manual. do not listen to tne manual about firmware upgrades it is bull and is standard fodder in these manuals the upshot is that you may never find the right firmware for your device!!!! The problem with thee devices is that they are made by so many different Chinese companies and they all seem to use a slightly different version of the standard rockchip firmware (Rockchip is the chip your player uses, standard around here) and i can gaurantee that a firmware upgrade will do nothing for your player as it will never be updated by Veho veho are doing nothing more than many online shops and ebay sales, they are buying random MP4 players from random factories at the lowest price and selling them on - they have no care about firmware at all so, after that rant, the upshot is: 1. unlikely to find firmware 2. no upgrades will actually come from veho 3. even if a firmware is found it will give no new functionality at all 4. leave well alone, if it works now then dont mess 5. if you do get brave and find a firmware, chances are you will break your player sorry to be the bearer of bad news but veho are just another cheap MP4 seller with no interest in supporting this particular product |
Hi dave
I agree with everything Makd511 has said above. There is however a chance that a firmware extractor may appear on this site in the near future, then you will at least be able to extract the firmware off your player to keep as a back in case you need to restore your player in the future. We have one of the best freeware programmers around (dancemammal) working on this at the moment so I suggest you don't do anything with the firmware and wait for a backup utility to appear. |
Re: Looking for Firmware update for Veho 4gb mp4 player.
Hello,
Thanks for the replies. The player kind off looks like the picts on the website. However the pict of the back implies its got a camera but it doesn't and the pict of the fount is kinda different The one I've got has a weird distracting silver band around the screen. The mp4 player is ok, not great. The reason I got it is because I do a lot of travelling, I work away from home and am currently using public transport.... oh joy, over 4 hours to travel 45 miles, daily. I was wanting something I could put some videos on and watch when I'm on the bus. Whilst I was farting around with the mp4 player I got a weird error in that a couple of my vids on it got corrupted and wouldn't play for no reason. Another problem I had was installing the driver so it would work with my pc. The driver was being a bitch and after a while I got it to work but for some reason if and when it works it shows two removable drives with only one that's accessible Speaking of the driver, the driver disk I got with it is one of those small cd's but it looks like a recordable cd. You know the ones that have a green side instead of a silver one all be it a minor thing. Also the earphones I got with it are crap and only one ear plug works. I don't want to send the hole lot back as I don't want to be bored shitless when travelling and have to wait weeks for a replacement. I'll e-mail veho again but I don't expect a reply. I e-mailed veho today asked them for the firmware and gave them some suggestions on the website. In a way I'm a bit disappointed I expected more from a British company. Before I got this mp4 player I had a Tatun m100 mp3 player, when I first got it it was just a mp3 player but the company later on released a firmware update that aloud you to play vids on its small screen. I was surprised that they did that. It's a good wee thing but the screen is way to small but it was nice to get a update that actually added something new. Thanks for all the informative replies, If I get a reply from veho I shall post it here, and if in the extremely unlikely event that I get a firmware update then ill post it here. |
Re: Looking for Firmware update for Veho 4gb mp4 player.
Hi danger_dave
Does your player look like this one? http://images.novatech.co.uk/si-nov-mp44v.jpg I've just bought one of these, the box has the model number vmp-009 and is a 2gb mp4 player. Inside was a small CD containing only AVI converter software, a set of earphones, a USB cable and a single page called a quick start guide. Not very useful at all. No firmware software or description on how to update firmeware. Somehow I've managed to get it into chinese mode and have no idea how to get it back into english mode. Any ideas? A user manual would have been good ... guess this is what you get for going cheap  |
BTW - I just found what I was looking for over here:
http://veho.diinoweb.com/files/veho%...0MP4%20Player/ Least I'll be able to get it back into english now. It must have been a common problem if they had to release a how to for that. Just wish I knew how I changed it to chinese in the 1st place :P So now I have the firmware file: NEW FIRMWARE.RWF ... in the manual it says this: When the installation of programs required by computer is OK, you can begin the upgrading; select and run the firmware upgrading tool Consumer.exe (can be found in attached disk), then open the option and select Rock2*.rfw file (the Interface is as follows). Problem is, I can't find anything on their site let alone the CD that is an upgrade tool. :x |
You can find the update program in the download section of this site.
